Enabulele Applauds Nigeria Cricket Federation President for Rewarding Team Edo Athletes

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has commended Dr. Uyi Akpata, President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation and Chairman of the Edo State Cricket Association, for his steadfast dedication to sports development in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele expressed appreciation to Dr. Akpata for fulfilling his promise to reward outstanding performances by cricket teams. He specifically highlighted the recent cash gifts given to Team Edo athletes, who emerged as the best male and female cricket teams at the Gateway Games in Abeokuta, winning an impressive five gold medals out of six.

“What Dr. Akpata has done is highly significant for the growth of sports in Nigeria. It will serve as strong motivation for our cricket teams to continue to pursue excellence and bring home trophies,” Enabulele stated.

He further emphasized the importance of such gestures, urging others to follow suit: “I call on sports administrators at the national and state levels, as well as private individuals and corporate organizations, to support and encourage our athletes and coaches. Sports development cannot be left to the government alone.”

Enabulele also praised the dedication of the athletes and coaches, saying, “This reward is a true testament to hard work, resilience, and a passion for sporting excellence. I commend our cricket players and coaches for their commitment and for making Edo proud.”

Last week, Dr. Uyi Akpata redeemed his cash pledge for the Nigeria National Sports Festival, totaling ₦4,450,000 (₦1,500,000, ₦1,950,000, and ₦1,000,000), awarded to the Edo cricket teams for their outstanding performance at the 2024 Gateway Games held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Expat Doctor’s Diagnosis: A Tale of Two Healthcare Systems

This afternoon, I was chatting with my British colleague, a seasoned 56-year-old. I mentioned that our former president had passed away last weekend right here in the UK.

“Wow,” he said, a look of surprise crossing his face. “Was he on exile here?”
“No,” I replied, “he was sick.”

He then pondered, “So why didn’t he go back home to get good treatment?”
I explained, “He actually came here to get better treatment.”

At that, he paused, a puzzled expression on his face as he stared at me.
“Why are you looking at my face like that?” I asked, a bit amused.

He leaned in slightly, a wry smile forming. “That means you only have better colleges than us; you don’t have good hospitals.”

His quick deduction caught me off guard. “How did you know we have good colleges but not good hospitals?”

He chuckled softly. “Because all the good doctors here are Nigerians.”

Dr. Deji Adeleke’s 1250MW Power Plant Poised for Commissioning, Set to Significantly Boost Nigeria’s Energy Capacity

A monumental stride in Nigeria’s energy landscape is on the horizon as the 1250MW power plant spearheaded by the renowned billionaire businessman, Dr. Deji Adeleke, has reached full completion and is now ready for commissioning. This ambitious project, once operational, is expected to be a game-changer for Nigeria’s long-standing energy deficit, significantly enhancing the nation’s electricity generation capacity.

According to sources closely involved with the project, the final hurdle for the plant’s activation is its connection to the national gas grid. Upon this crucial connection, the facility will emerge as one of the largest power projects ever undertaken in Nigeria, contributing substantially to the country’s power supply.

This significant investment by Dr. Adeleke underscores a renewed and robust private sector confidence in Nigeria’s critical infrastructure space. It signals a major step forward in the ongoing efforts to address the chronic power shortages that have historically hampered economic growth and development across the nation.

Who is Dr. Deji Adeleke?

Dr. Adedeji Tajudeen Adeleke, born on March 6, 1957, is a prominent Nigerian business magnate, investor, and philanthropist. He is widely recognized for his extensive interests across various sectors of the Nigerian economy, including real estate, oil and gas, and, notably, power generation.

A highly educated individual, Dr. Adeleke holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Western Kentucky University, an MBA, and a PhD in International Business from Pacific Columbia University. He further pursued a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Phoenix, specializing in Electricity Management and Regulation.

Beyond his vast business empire, Dr. Adeleke is also a passionate advocate for education and human development. He is the founder and Pro-Chancellor of Adeleke University in Ede, Osun State, a private institution committed to providing quality education. His philanthropic endeavors extend to various community development and healthcare initiatives, reflecting his dedication to societal betterment.

Dr. Adeleke is also famously known as the father of globally acclaimed Nigerian music superstar, Davido (David Adedeji Adeleke). Despite his immense wealth and influence, he maintains a relatively low public profile, preferring to focus on his business ventures and philanthropic work. His latest venture into large-scale power generation further solidifies his position as a key player in Nigeria’s economic advancement.

The commissioning of this 1250MW power plant is anticipated to not only provide a substantial boost to electricity supply but also create numerous direct and indirect employment opportunities, further stimulating economic activity in the region and across the country.

Nadine Djuiko

Today, her multimillion‑dollar enterprise employs over 400 braiders and can accommodate more than 150 clients at once, across three storefronts on Old Annapolis Road in West Bowie Village.

Nadine arrived in the United States in August 2009 on a student vìsa, intending to study banking at St. Cloud State University.

However, she was unable to afford tuition and turned to hair braiding to support herself, earning her first U.S. income by braiding customers’ hair in Minnesota and even braiding a whìte man’s hair for $35 over about 90 minutes.

A few years later, she moved to Bowie, Maryland, and worked in over a dozen salons before launching her own small home‑based service while pregnant with her first child.

Her first brick‑and‑mortar salon opened in 2015 at West Bowie Village, where she initially saw fewer than ten clients per day.

To build clientele, she distributed flyers across the DMV area in places like Howard University, Largo, and Lanham markets frequented by Black women.

Her breakthrough came when a satisfied customer posted her braids on TikT0k, celebrating both the affordability and speed of service.

The post went viral earning a million views in a single day and the following morning Nadine received 200 phone calls, having never previously gotten even 50 calls in one day. Clients were specifically asking for what became known as the “TikT0k special”

To meet growing demand, Nadine innovated a “factory‐style” system in which multiple braiders work on one client simultaneously, cutting traditional six‑to‑eight‑hour braid sessions down to as little as two and a half hours.

This efficiency, combined with fair prices, attracted clients from across the region including Delaware, New York, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Nadine’s journey from a student immigrant through home‑based braiding, to operating a state‑of‑the‑art salon embodies resilience, creativity, and entrepreneurial acumen.

  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1

Cooking the Rice

Rinse the Carolina White Rice under cold water to remove any excess starch.

In a saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the rinsed rice and a pinch of salt.

Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let the rice simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until all the water is absorbed.

Once cooked, fluff the rice gently with a fork. Set it aside while we prepare the sausages and vegetables.

Step 2

Sausages and Vegetables

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Add the diced onions and minced garlic, and sauté until they turn golden and aromatic.

Slice the sausages into bite-sized pieces and add them to the skillet. Cook until they are browned on all sides.

Now, add the diced bell pepper, zucchini, broccoli florets, and sliced carrots to the skillet. Stir-fry for a few minutes until the vegetables start to soften.

Season the mixture with salt, pepper, dried oregano, and paprika. Stir well to coat the sausages and vegetables evenly with the spices.

Cover the skillet and let it simmer for about 10-12 minutes or until the vegetables are tender yet still slightly crisp.

While the skillet is simmering, take this moment to appreciate the wonderful aroma wafting through your kitchen.

Step 3

Bringing It All Together

Once the sausages and vegetables are cooked to perfection, add the cooked Carolina White Rice to the skillet.

Gently toss everything together, ensuring that the rice is well combined with the sausages and vegetables.

Let the flavors mingle for a couple of minutes on low heat.

Sprinkle some freshly chopped parsley on top for a burst of freshness and vibrant color.

Ifa Council to sue Ogun, Awujale family over monarch’s burial rites

The International Council For Ifa Religion, on Saturday, threatened to sue the Ogun State Government and the family of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, for violating the legal and laid down traditional rites of burying a traditional ruler in the state.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by ICIR President, Fayemi Fakayode; its Public Relations Officer, Ayanladun Fajemisin and the Legal representative of the group, Ifasola Opeodu, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Oba Adetona joined his ancestors, on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at the age of 91, and was buried according to Islamic rites.

ICIR vowed to correct what they called an anomaly and a departure from the laid down traditional practice of the Yoruba tribe in giving the last respect and rites to the deceased king.

The council referred to the last judicial pronouncement over the matter when the late Awujale was alive, which upheld the burial of traditional rulers according to the customs and traditions of the Yoruba people as against that of foreign religions like Islam and Christianity.

ICIR said, “Following the recent controversy surrounding the burial rites of Awujale of Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State, we at the ICIR commend the Osugbo Confraternity of Ijebu-Ode for their exemplary restraint and patience in the face of adversity. That is infact a virtue that aligns with the noble teachings of Òrúnmìlà.

“The Islamic clergies as led by the Chief Imam of Ijebu-Ode violated the law of the land and as a result, demonstrated the lawlessness character and nature of their religion.

“This poignant moment reminds us that the gentleness of a lion is not a sign of weakness, but rather a testament to its wisdom and strength, as embodied in the proverb ‘Yíyọ́ ẹkùn; tojo kọ́.

“Regarding the burial rites of the late Oba Adetona, it is essential to recall that the matter was settled while the late kabiesi was still alive, by a Court of law and with the new bill passed in the state.”

The Ifa council statement continued, “Any action contrary to this judgment and the laws of the land would be a disregard for the customs and traditions that have been the cornerstone of our heritage, there is no doubt that the burial was not in consonance with the law of the state, and it is obvious that the burial arrangement contravened Part 8, Section 55, Sub-section ii of the Ogun State Chieftaincy law.

“This issue transcends a mere burial rite; it represents a challenge to the very fabric of our customs and traditions, the actions taken at the event were part of a larger agenda to erode the cultural practices that have defined us for generations and strategic plan towards annihilation of our race by invaders who mischievously naturalized and whose offsprings are now pursuing their fore fathers’ agenda.

“We urge the sons and daughters of Ijebu-Ode and the entire Yoruba race to recognize that the institution of Obaship is not only a sacred tradition but also a choice that demands respect for our cultural heritage. We must acknowledge that our diversity is our strength and that our differences are what make our culture so rich and vibrant.

“We condemn the disrespect shown to the Osugbo Confraternity during the event by the family of the late Oba, the Government officials and the security agencies concerned. Furthermore, to prevent such occurrence in the future, we will take necessary legal actions.”

FG, states delay 130,000 forest guards’ recruitment amid rising killings

The renewed national forest policing initiative launched by the Federal Government in May is receiving a slow response from several states.

President Bola Tinubu approved the establishment of the National Forest Guard system on May 15 as part of efforts to tackle the worsening insecurity across Nigeria.

According to a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the president made the announcement during an expanded Federal Executive Council meeting.

The Scale is Lying! Why You’re Losing Fat But Gaining Weight?

Are you on a dedicated weight loss journey? You’re eating right, hitting the gym, and feeling stronger, but when you step on the scale… the number is going UP! Frustrating, right? You’re not alone, and surprisingly, this often signals a massive win for your health and physique.

It’s time to shift your focus from the deceiving number on the scale to what’s truly happening inside your amazing body: body recomposition.

Why the Scale Might Be Your Frenemy: Understanding Body Recomposition

For many Nigerian women, the goal is often “weight loss,” but the real target should be fat loss and improved body composition.

Here’s why you might be shedding fat but seeing the scale creep up:

Muscle is Denser Than Fat (Your New Secret Weapon!):
Imagine comparing a kilo of feathers to a kilo of stones. They both weigh the same, but the feathers take up far more space. It’s similar with fat and muscle. Muscle is significantly denser and more compact than fat. As you replace bulky fat with lean, firm muscle, your overall size might shrink (meaning clothes fit better!), but your total weight might increase because muscle weighs more per volume. This is fantastic news for your metabolism!

The Power of Water Retention (Temporary Gains):

* Glycogen & Water: When you start exercising more, particularly if you’re active, your muscles store more glycogen (your body’s preferred energy source). For every gram of glycogen stored, your body holds onto approximately 3 grams of water. This can temporarily add a few kilograms to the scale.

* Post-Workout Swelling: Intense workouts cause micro-tears in your muscle fibers. Your body’s repair process involves temporary inflammation and fluid retention around the muscles. This is a sign of adaptation and growth, not fat gain!

* Sodium & Hydration: Watch your salt intake! High sodium can cause your body to hold onto more water. Conversely, even being slightly dehydrated can sometimes trick your body into retaining water. Ensure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day.

* Hormonal Shifts: For Nigerian women, hormonal fluctuations during your menstrual cycle can cause significant water retention, leading to temporary weight fluctuations. Don’t panic if the scale jumps around your period!

* You’re Building a Faster Metabolism:
This is perhaps the most exciting part! Muscle is metabolically active. This means the more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns at rest, even when you’re just sitting down! While fat is largely inert, muscle is constantly working. So, as you gain muscle, you’re building a more efficient, fat-burning machine. This is crucial for sustainable weight management in the long run.

Beyond the Scale: True Measures of Your Progress

Stop letting that single number dictate your mood! For Nigerian women on this journey, focus on these far more accurate and motivating indicators of your progress:

* How Your Clothes Fit: This is perhaps the most reliable indicator. Are your trousers looser? Is your favourite top feeling less snug? This is direct evidence of fat loss, regardless of what the scale says.

* Body Measurements: Grab a tape measure! Track your waist, hips, thighs, and arms. Reductions in these numbers are undeniable signs that you’re losing inches and reshaping your body.

* Progress Photos: Take pictures of yourself every 4-6 weeks (in the same clothes, same lighting). You’ll be amazed at the visual transformation that the scale might not reveal.

* Energy Levels and Strength: Are your workouts feeling easier? Can you lift more or last longer? Do you have more energy for daily tasks, from carrying groceries to playing with your children? These are massive victories!

* Body Fat Percentage: If you have access, getting your body fat percentage measured (via DEXA scan, BIA, or even callipers) provides a much clearer picture of your body composition.

Your Nigerian Weight Loss Journey: Embrace the Recomposition!

For Nigerian women seeking sustainable results, strength training should be a cornerstone of your fitness routine. Don’t be afraid to lift weights! You won’t get “bulky” – instead, you’ll become toned, strong, and healthier. Combine this with a balanced diet rich in protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates, and you’re setting yourself up for true success.

The Scale is Lying! Why You're Losing Fat But Gaining Weight?
The Scale is Lying! Why You’re Losing Fat But Gaining Weight?

So, the next time the scale seems to betray your efforts, remember: it’s likely telling a more complex, and ultimately, more positive story. You’re not just losing weight; you’re transforming your body, building strength, boosting your metabolism, and investing in a healthier, more vibrant you.

Celebrate every non-scale victory!

Pru East Inter-Tribal Sallah Gala Unites Communities and Uncovers Talent

In a vibrant celebration of unity and sportsmanship, Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, Member of Parliament for Pru East Constituency, organized the annual Inter-Tribal Sallah Football Gala, fulfilling a key campaign promise. The event, held across the Parambo/Sawaba and Yeji zones, brought together diverse ethnic groups to compete, connect, and celebrate.

The Parambo/Sawaba zone concluded its tournament on June 28, with the Kabri/Kabre tribe emerging as champions. Following this success, the Yeji zone hosted a spirited competition involving 22 tribes. The Chumuru tribe clinched the 2025 title, dethroning the 2024 champions, the Gonja tribe, who secured second place. The Ewe tribe took third, while the Hausa tribe finished fourth, showcasing remarkable talent and camaraderie.

Purpose of the Gala

The Inter-Tribal Sallah Gala serves a greater purpose beyond competition:

  1. Identifying and nurturing young football talent within Pru East.
  2. Fostering unity among diverse tribes.

  3. Promoting physical fitness and cardiovascular health.

  4. Encouraging teamwork, responsibility, work ethic, and strategic planning.

Launched in 2023, the gala has become a cherished tradition, dispelling initial skepticism that it was merely an election tactic. Hon. Boam has reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the initiative annually until its goals are fully realized, emphasizing its role in community development.

Due to pressing parliamentary duties and efforts to address critical constituency issues—such as armed robbery and poor road networks—Hon. Boam and District Chief Executive Hon. Abdul Nasir Dauda were unable to attend the Yeji finals. However, the Constituency executives, led by the secretary, represented them, presenting football jerseys, drinks, and an undisclosed cash prize to the participating teams.

Leadership and Vision

The people of Pru East continue to praise Hon. Boam and Hon. Dauda (affectionately known as “Borga Narsh”) for their dedication, humility, and unifying leadership. As one local adage goes, “A tree doesn’t make a forest, unless trees.” Together, these leaders are cultivating a stronger, more connected Pru East.

The community is encouraged to support their leaders with prayers for wisdom, protection, and guidance as they work tirelessly for progress.

AWUJALE: LET THE GODS AVENGE THEMSELVES!

Awujale Sikiru Adetona never hid his disdain for what the Yorubas called isese. He jettisoned his relationship with all forms of traditional worships and dared the Ogbonis, the dreaded Agemo cult group and similar groups to do their worst. He visited anywhere taboo forbade him. Many years ago, he withdrew from participating in the dreaded Agemo festival. At a point, the Agemos were said to have given him a year to live after he openly insulted them. He lived to the ripe old age of 91!

The Holy Books, the Holy Bible and the Quran are replete with situations where the Sovereign GOD avenged Himself after being disparaged!

Romans 12:19 (NKJV) says:
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, saith the Lord!

The Quran does not explicitly state “let God avenge Himself.” However, several verses speak to Almighty GOD’s justice and retribution, emphasizing that He is the ultimate judge and avenger. For example, Surah Al-An’am (6:102-103) states that the Omnipotent GOD is the Creator and Sustainer of all things and that He is aware of everything. This implies that He has the power to avenge, but also the wisdom to judge justly. Additionally, Surah Al-Baqarah (2:194) discusses the principle of “an eye for an eye” in the context of fighting in the sacred month, suggesting that retribution is permissible when done justly and under the Omniscient GOD’s guidance!

There abound examples in Yoruba mythology of gods who took the battle to those who disrespected them.
Sango was betrayed by his most trusted general when he was in human form. Upon his death, whether self inflicted or murder, he transformed back as an Orisa and set the kingdom ablaze in retribution. His people never took Sango and his power for granted again!

The Ijebu Kingdom has been inundated with cries that the Awujale was buried contrary to tradition and as such very dire consequences will follow. What it is that would happen no one has told us. The offence we were told was against the alales (that is the gods of the land). If indeed the gods have the powers ascribed to them, then noone needs to defend them or even be their mouthpiece. Let the gods avenge themselves!

I was born in Ilese-Ijebu, the Elese of Ilese is one of the Obas who cannot see the Awujale. I find this tradition not only ridiculous but absolutely against good conscience and a breach of fundamental human rights.

I do hope that when a new Awujale comes to Ilese to wear the first crown as an Oba, both he and the Elese would sort out whatever the issue that gave birth to this ridiculous tradition and be able to see each other. The new Awujale would fraternise with the Elese after his coronation. Enough of this otiose tradition!

Awujale Adetona while alive gave notice of how he wished to be buried. He ensured that there is a law to back up his wishes. The law has been followed. The alales know all those who ganged up to do this so let the gods pursue them!

There is no doubt that Awujale Adetona had a long reign and longetivity made him an orisa of some sort. That perhaps was the reason why noone dared to challenge his beliefs even when he wrote a two hundred and seventy five page book about it. Modernisation of the obaship institution was a plus for him. We cannot be talking of human sacrifice in Year 2025. The so called burial rites are disgraceful, demeaning, fundamentally a breach of rights of humanity. I witnessed one so many years back as a young Ijebu lad. The body of the deceased Oba was tied by the neck and dragged throughout the community in the dead of the night!

Let each Oba die in dignity without his remains being mutilated and his remains buried instalmentally. This is one sure way of attracting quality people to Ijebu thrones. Take a census of Ijebu obas. We have lawyers, medical doctors, captains of industries and highly successful men in diverse fields!

If indeed the gods are aggrieved about Awujale Adetona’s stance on burial of Obas and the manner he was buried, let the gods avenge themselves!
