Why the North should ignore Atiku and face Obi, Jonathan

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar or anyone else from the North who nurses the ambition to take a shot at the presidency come 2027 should quietly bury the thought.

Southerners have woken up from their age-long slumber that made Northerners felt superior over them. Is no longer going to be business as usual for Northern political dominance in Nigeria.

I thought Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was a smart politician until his desperation to become president reached its diminishment. A good politician of Atiku Abubakar’s status should learn to live the political stage when the ovation is loudest.

The same domineering mindset of every Northern politician is the same driving force behind Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Which Makes him believe that presidency is their birthright which must be grabbed by all means no matter what Southerners think. The earlier Atiku Abubakar understands that the era of Northern hegemony has passed, the better for him.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu demystified what was left of North’s power control in the heat of 2023 general elections, when he boldly and proudly said, “emilokan”. Which means, “it is my turn.” Emilokan is a pregnant statement! He said it and he got it despite the mountainous opposition from then sitting president, Mohammadu Buhari, a man he helped to power, then All Progressives Congress APC, National Chairman, Adamu, then president of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan and whatnot.

President Tinubu crush3d the Northern entitlement mentality regarding the nation’s seat of power occupation. It will take a long while for the North to recover from the uppercuts d3alt them by Jagaban in 2023.

Am not a supporter of the president. Truth be told, prior to Tinubu’s ascension to power in 2023, Jagaban had always been a leader with a good knowledge of Nigerian politics which was why he never contested for presidency until the time was right for him to do so in 2023. Can that be said of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who contests in every election season?

This hurry-hurry style of politics played Atiku Abubakar won’t work now nor in the future.

No doubt, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a master strategist politically but does his political sagacity translate to good governance and fulfilments? For me, the answer is no in the sense that he has made Nigerians poorer more than he ever met them — all thanks to his unfriendly policies. I had a lot of positive expectations of him after he was declared winner of the 2023 presidential polls. What happened thereafter shocked me. He made huge political and economic blunders that shook the very foundation of the nation!

The biggest blunder made by him since he assumed office was fuel subsidy removal without adequate preparations for its adverse effects on the citizens on his Inauguration Day.

Nigeria has never been the same ever since his hasty removal of the subsidy.

His hasty policy of subsidy removal will never be forgotten by Nigerians in a hurry because it taught them shege and it’s very bitter experience no matter how his apologists try to defend it.

Be that as it may, as it stands now, the North should forget about contesting for presidency in 2027, rather, they they should figure out a popular politician from the South and throw their weight behind him.

I stand to be corrected, no Northern politician can triumph over Tinubu in 2027 elections. The South won’t let that happen. Never!

The North should look in the direction of Mr Peter Obi or Dr Goodluck Jonathan for 2027 political projection. Any of these two politicians can slug it out with the president come 2027.

I say this with all sense of responsibility, Peter Obi who had no state governors nor other elected officials on his side during the 2023 presidential election was able to win eleven states plus the FCT with ease at the polls.

According to Chief Sowunmi, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP should woo Peter Obi and see the wonders that would follow if he agrees to fly their flag in 2027 election.

On the part of Goodluck Jonathan, GEJ’s democratic credentials could speak for him if he decides to run in 2027.

These are the two top politicians from the South whom I think could throw the Jagaban himself off-balance in 2027.

If the North makes the mistake of fielding a candidate from their very end and refused to support Peter Obi or GEJ, Bendel Gists Blog would have no option but to support Jagaban, afterall when the desirable becomes unavailable, the available becomes desirable.

South Mumu Don Do!
