Distinguishing Partisanship From Patriotism: What Makes The Labour Party A Special Political Party

Partisanship is the one’s total inclination to behold and affirm to whatever is of benefits to the party,not minding the overall implications to national growth or development.Partisanship may be fueled by positive or negative inclinations to project the party in the limelight.Partisanship is just one’s total loyalty to the party,upholding its constitution and working for the overall interests of the party at all costs. Paetisanship may be a one-sided inclination borne of selfishness or selflessness. Partisanship is in part but not the whole.

Patriotism is the whole endeavour for national growth and development.While partisanship may be negative or positive endeavour,patriotism is totally a positive endeavour resulting from one’s love for the nation.All the obligations and duties of a citizen are rooted in patriotism, done to promote nation building and national redemption.Patriotism ranges from civic responsibility, obedience to the rule of law,prompt payment of taxes, bills and levies,passion for wealth and jobs creation on the part of the citizens, abiding by the laid down rules and regulations,strictly adhering to National Public Holidays,down to security of lives and properties, both private and public,and many more. Patriotism in all means placing humanity above all by the citizens.

The only aspects of patriotism needed from our leaders or the government are good leadership and good governance for the good of all the citizens.The right leadership in any nation enjoyed by the citizens is a culmination of patriotism on the parts of the government and the governed.Both leaders and the led must uphold the sanctity of patriotism to move the nation forward,for it to enjoy civilisation, growth, urbanisation and development.

 

Capacity building by the citizens truly enhances the level of nation’s productivity. High level of productivity in turns leads to national growth and development. Every developed nation must prioretise high level of production to beef up its productivity for accelerated growth and development. Education, training, research and development are the veritable parameters for increasing the level of productivity in any developed or developing nation. The citizens must embrace hard work and work smart while walking in love to create wealth and support the government endeavours in terms of its policies and programmes if the nation must grow.All hands must be on deck by the working population for positive growth to be attained.

 

When a citizen supports only the President of his or her country to succeed,it is borne out of patriotism,and not partisanship.But when a citizen supports all the leaders of a certain political party, it is regarded as partisanship. Patriotism is purely for nation building;and for a nation to grow, the President must be the major driver of such growth.In this case, a country like Nigeria has only one President, whom all the citizens look up to for a better country. And, to nip it on the board, after general election, the country becomes one constituency under the leadership of the President. Supporting the President to succeed in his leadership trajectory by one from another political party different from that of the President, is borne out patriotism and not of partisanship.

But, during Presidential Election like 2027 as the case may be, supporting Tinubu from another political party different from that of President Tinubu’s is purely a negative act of partisanship. In 2027 Presidential Election, whoever supports President Tinubu from another party does so out of partisanship and not patriotism. Patriotism is purely a positive endeavour while partisanship may be either positive or negative.

 

Patriotism entails that a citizen must vote and be voted for.Partisanship concerns on the choice or pattern of voting by the electorate.Partisanship is more of party activities while patriotism is all about one’s love for the nation for the course of its building.Patriotism centres only on the people and the nation. Partisanship concerns the people and the political party affiliation.

 

Every true democrat and nationalist loves to be in the Labour Party just because the LP upholds the sanctity of patriotism for nation building. The Labour Party in this stead prioretises patriotism above partisanship,in as much as its membership are drawn from both private and public Nigerians of all walks of life. The LP combines both statutory powers of the Nigerian legitimate workers and mass movement of all the patriotic citizens of Nigeria. The Labour Party enjoys both patriotism and partisanship from the Nigerian citizens, a factor that stands it out as a special political party from other conventional political parties in the nation’s political system.

The LP upholds the sanctity of internal democracy to cater for the welfare of the Nigerian workers and the legitimate mass movement in the country. The LP grooms and mentors leaders to deliver the right leadership in the polity. That must be the major reason why the LP’s cardinal or founding ideology was rooted in social justice and equity to all citizens. The LP is primarily registered to give the citizens ease of life and ameliorate their suffering in Nigeria. I believe such makes the LP a special political party with a deep reflective ideology, far different from other conventional political parties with partisanship belief.

 

The overall interests of the LP in the nation’s political system are to give Nigeria true democracy and true federalism.As the strengthening of internal democracy at party level gives rise to true democracy, so also is the strengthening of true democracy gives rise to true federalism. Once humanity is totally given much priority to by both the leaders and the led,bringing about adequate security of lives and properties, the country enjoys true nationalism. Nationalism is the ideal behind putting the country first by its entire citizens.

 

Making nobody nobody as witnessed in the LP is also a way of respecting all lives or citizens, according every citizen his or her dues within the nation, and ensuring that insecurity is gotten rid of. That is just the roadmap for building a righteous nation. A righteous nation enjoys prosperity and right leadership. The LP is designed as a political party for the good of all citizens, particularly those who have been abandoned in hopelessness by the past clueless government of the PDP at the center. Most leaders in the LP were selected from all the strata of the society without putting into consideration their respective roots, or better put,their personality orientation or disorientation,the citizenship only mattered most.

 

The heterogeneous composition of Nigeria requires a political party like the LP that puts the overall interests of the citizens first above partisanship. Many are currently supporting President Tinubu particularly just because his leadership philosophy enshrines giving hope to the hopeless in his Renewed Hope Agenda. Also,to ensure lost hopes are rekindled among the hopeless Nigerians, Mr. President convoked inclusive government so as to bring Nigerians of all walks of life with much capacity for the task of nation building. Today, such an arrangement has brought about unity, sanity, equity and stability in the nation’s political system. It is going to be a win-win arrangement between Mr. President and the LP, all for the good of the Nigerian citizens,to foster national growth and development.

 

The LP remains a special kind of political party for all citizens of Nigeria. The LP totally abhors any forms of corruption, hence maintains the course of internal democracy within party level. The LP is a political party that is not quite capital-intensive. The LP is for all who desire the best for our motherland, Nigeria.
