From Abuja’s bustling international airport to the Gwarinpa district, a taxi driver demanded an exorbitant 30,000 Naira from a teacher. Despite the teacher’s plea, the driver remained unmoved. With time running out, the teacher reluctantly agreed to the fare.
During the ride, a NIPCO sticker and the car’s transition suggested the driver was benefiting from the Federal Government’s CNG conversion initiative, using cheap gas at just 200 Naira per standard cubic meter.
The teacher, feeling exploited, noted the driver’s number.

Upon reaching the hotel and settling the fare, the teacher checked in and immediately drafted a petition to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) online.
The next morning, the FCCPC responded, requesting more details, which the teacher promptly provided.
The FCCPC swiftly acted, summoning the driver and subsequently arresting him. In a fitting resolution, the authorities took the driver to a CNG plant, reconverted his vehicle to run on fuel, and then released him.
