The conviction, secured by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was delivered on Thursday, May 8, 2025, by Justice Alexander Owoeye. The duo faced separate one-count charges for tampering with Naira notes—specifically spraying them during a social event held on April 8, 2025, at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi.
Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them, which violate Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007. The EFCC’s case was backed by compelling evidence, including viral video footage and confessional statements provided by the accused. The investigation was initiated after a TikTok video surfaced, showing TDollar spraying Naira notes in a Lagos nightclub.
Justice Owoeye sentenced each influencer to six months imprisonment with an option of a ₦200,000 fine.
This high-profile conviction sends a strong message to social media influencers and the public about the consequences of currency abuse in Nigeria. As the EFCC continues to clamp down on Naira mutilation and abuse, this case sets a clear precedent on the legal risks associated with such acts—even when committed for entertainment purposes.
