The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) marked a historic milestone as it celebrated its 60th Anniversary under the theme “A Legacy of Service”, with a rousing message from the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana.
In a ceremony graced by dignitaries including Her Excellency Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic, and key players from organized labour, the judiciary, and pension sector, the Chief of Staff delivered a powerful call to action—especially directed at Ghana’s youth.
“Social Security is not just about pensions,” Hon. Julius Debrah emphasized. “It is a promise. A promise that your hard work today will not be forgotten tomorrow.”

With a legacy spanning six decades, SSNIT has grown from a modest establishment into a pillar of social protection in Ghana—providing income security, restoring dignity to pensioners, and sustaining public trust in retirement planning.
The Chief of Staff urged young people to “see beyond the payslip,” and take ownership of their social security journey. “You don’t prepare for the future when you’re older. You prepare for it when you’re young,” he noted.
He applauded SSNIT’s adoption of digital platforms to improve service delivery and transparency, calling for continuous reform, innovation, and alignment with national development goals.
The event closed with Hon. Debrah’s heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders: “This milestone must drive us forward by deepening our culture of service and strengthening public confidence in our social security system.”
As Ghana reflects on 60 years of social protection, the message is clear—youth inclusion, policy innovation, and trust in the system are the future of national development.
