Stray Bullet Allegedly Fired by Police Kills Student on His Way to WAEC Exam

A tragic incident occurred in Ibadan, Oyo State, on May 20, as a secondary school student heading to sit for his West African Examination Council (WAEC) paper was fatally struck by a stray bullet. The bullet was allegedly fired by police officers in pursuit of suspected internet fraudsters, commonly known as “Yahoo Boys.”

According to eyewitness reports, the young student was riding with his father on a motorcycle along Gbagi Market Road when a police team fired shots at a moving vehicle during a high-speed chase. One of the bullets allegedly hit the unsuspecting student, cutting short his life just as he was on his way to write a pivotal exam.

Passersby quickly rushed the victim to Welfare Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. The tragic news sparked outrage in the community, prompting angry residents to carry the student’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat to demand justice and the attention of Governor Seyi Makinde.
