Residents of Bau, a farming community in Salaga-South Constituency, are celebrating a major relief in their long-standing water crisis after Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, the Member of Parliament, donated a 5,000-litre poly tank on Saturday, October 26, 2025.
The donation, part of the MP’s “Water for All” initiative, follows months of appeals from the community, where women and children previously walked over 3 kilometers daily to fetch water from contaminated streams.
A Lifeline for Bau: From Scarcity to Sustainability
The poly tank, mounted on a newly constructed concrete platform, was officially handed over by Mr. Mustapha Nafiu, Director of Special Projects at the MP’s office, during a brief ceremony attended by community leaders, women’s groups, and youth.

“This tank can store enough water to serve every household in Bau for days,” Mr. Nafiu said.
“Hon. Hajia Zuwera heard your cry and acted swiftly. Take ownership — maintain it, protect it, and let it serve generations.”
The facility is connected to a borehole system upgraded earlier in 2025 under the MP’s constituency development fund, ensuring clean, reliable water year-round.
Community Joy: “She Hears Us, She Acts”
Receiving the donation, Mr. Adam Ibrahim, Branch Chairman for Bau, fought back tears:
“Hon. Hajia Zuwera is not just our MP — she is our mother.
When we complained about water, she didn’t send promises — she sent solutions.
This tank is more than plastic and water — it’s hope.”
He praised her “compassionate and responsive leadership”, noting that Bau had gone without piped water for over a decade.
“We pray for her success.
As she lifts us, may God lift her higher.”
Women in the community, led by Madam Amina Seidu, performed a traditional song of gratitude, dancing around the tank as children cheered.
Hon. Hajia Zuwera’s Track Record on Water & Development
This is the third poly tank donated by the MP in 2025, following similar interventions in Kpalbe and Gbungbali. Her office has:
– Drilled 12 new boreholes
– Repaired 8 broken ones
– Trained 25 community water boards on maintenance
Her broader “MP’s Diary” series — shared weekly on social media — documents grassroots projects, earning her the nickname “The People’s MP”.
Why This Matters
- Health Impact: Reduces waterborne diseases (cholera cases down 60% in Salaga-South, GHS data)
- Economic Boost: Frees women for farming & trading
- Education: Girls now attend school instead of fetching water
“Water is life. No community under my watch will thirst while I serve.
This is just the beginning — Bau will soon have piped water to every home.”
— Hon. Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah
With the 5,000-litre poly tank now flowing, Bau has moved from water scarcity to water security — thanks to a leader who listens, acts, and delivers.
As one elder put it:
“Hajia didn’t bring a tank — she brought dignity.”
