Retired General Alleges Retaliation After Capturing Boko Haram Leader, Calls for Investigation into Late COAS Death

Abuja, Nigeria – In a bombshell letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, retired Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi has made startling allegations of retaliation and cover-ups within Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations.

The retired general claims that his successful capture of key Boko Haram figures, including the group’s “real leader,” was met with compulsory retirement, arrest, and 64 days of solitary confinement.

Ali-Keffi, who previously commanded the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division and served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), headed “Operation Service Wide,” a presidentially sanctioned task force investigating terrorism financing. He alleges that his team uncovered a network of financiers, including senior government officials, military officers, and financial institutions.

“The moment we arrested some of these individuals and started exposing the financial pipelines of terror, the backlash began,” Ali-Keffi stated in his letter.

He alleges that powerful forces within and outside the government moved to suppress his operation and silence those involved.
Furthermore, Ali-Keffi raised serious concerns regarding the 2021 plane crash that resulted in the death of Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the then Chief of Army Staff. He asserts that Attahiru was committed to pursuing terror financiers and supported Operation Service Wide. Ali-Keffi subtly suggested that Attahiru’s death may not have been accidental, urging President Tinubu to reopen the investigation into the crash and the alleged sabotage of anti-terrorism efforts.

The retired general’s allegations have sparked widespread calls for accountability. The federal government has yet to issue an official response. However, the implications of his claims are significant, suggesting potential internal sabotage of the fight against terrorism.

Ali-Keffi’s revelations have ignited critical questions regarding the true beneficiaries of the prolonged insurgency and the silencing of those attempting to combat it from within the system.

The public is now demanding transparency and thorough investigations into these serious accusations, emphasizing that the nation’s security efforts may be compromised by internal betrayal.
