The Honorable member representing the good people of Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru has formally laid a petition on behalf of the Aiguobasinmwin Movement, (a prominent socio-cultural Benin group) regarding the inciting actions of Sen. Ned Nwoko against the Benin Kingdom and Igbanke Community.
The petition, duly signed by Mr. Osaro Iyamu Culture (President) and Mr. Osayuki Osa-Benson (Secretary General) of the movement, calls on the House to urgently intervene and halt the alleged move to excise parts of the Igbanke Community in Edo State for the proposed creation of Anioma State. The petition emphasizes that Igbanke has historically been an integral part of the Benin Kingdom, under the revered authority of the Oba of Benin.

The movement strongly condemned what it described as a clandestine attempt by Sen. Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North at the Nigerian Senate, to annex parts of Edo State in a bid to distort historical boundaries and cultural identities. It warned that such provocative actions will be met with firm legal resistance.
While presenting the petition, Hon. Osawaru decried the Senator’s divisive antics, which he said have been widely reported and have caused deep unrest among the people of the Benin Kingdom. He stressed that this incitement threatens the peace and stability of the region. He therefore urged the Honourable House to investigate the matter thoroughly, take immediate steps to prevent the breakdown of law and order, and hold the Senator accountable for his actions.
The Benin Kingdom, rich in ancestry, heritage, and unbroken royal traditions remains a unified, indivisible, and indissoluble entity. No guise of state creation or political ambition will be allowed to distort this historic order.
