Presbyterian Church affirms its support for National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving

Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has assured the planning committee of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving (NDPT) of the Church’s fullest support during the celebration.

He said the President’s declaration of the day as a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, was an acknowledgement of what God has done for the nation.

The Moderator said this during a courtesy visit paid by the planning committee of the NDPT to introduce themselves to him, brief him of the laid down activities, formally invite him, and seek his blessings.

The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving is designed to bring together Christians, Muslims and other religious groups together for a common purpose, on the theme: “Reflect, Reset, and Renew for National Prosperity.”

The Christian segment of the programme will be held at the forecourt of the State House from 0800 hours to 1000 hours, followed by Muslim prayers at the National Mosque from 1230 hours to 1400 hours.

The event is scheduled to take place simultaneously in all 16 regions and 266 districts.

Rev. Dr. Kwakye said it was with excitement upon receiving the news of the NDPT, when the President announced it, hence expressing gratefuless to God.

“I would like to assure you that by the grace of God, if the Lord allows us all to see the July 1, God willing, we will be there, and in subsequent July 1 programs as a church, we will be therem,” he stressed.

He said generally, there was relative peace in the country compared to the nations that surrounded us, and that God has done so much for Ghana.

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Ghana said earlier this week, the Constitutional Review Committee established by His Excellency engaged with the Faith Community, including prominent Christian and Muslim leaders.

He said the discussions were marked by exceptional collaboration and mutual respect, reflecting long-standing relationships across religious lines.

He said this spirit of unity was a testament to God’s grace upon the nation, hence commended the President for recognising this blessing and encouraging the nation to come together in gratitude to God.

“But our prayers are with the President, we are praying that he will succeed in his work, make our nation very prosperous because when the nation becomes prosperous, all of us benefit, all of us receive the blessings that come with it”

“So, we would ask you to convey to His Excellency our joy at his invitation and to assure him that we are with him, not only with the NDPT, but in all the things that the Lord has called him to execute as President,” he added.

Rev. Dr. Kwakye thanked the committee for making the effort to call on the Church, hoping that they kept calling on other leaders as well.

He said this was a very positive sign, which would actually elicit a better response from all the churches.

“So, I commend you for the work you are doing in preparing for the NDPT. I pray that when we all meet, whether Christian or Muslim, and we lift our praises to God, and we thank God and we pray, the Lord will hear us, and do great things for our nation,” he stressed.
