Bauchi, Nigeria – The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force’s Force Education Unit, officially commissioned the POWA Model Children School in Sum, Bogoro Local Government Area, Bauchi State, on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
The event also marked the groundbreaking for a proposed Police Secondary School, alongside a fundraising drive and an empowerment program for police families and the host community.
Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, POWA President, emphasized that the project transcends mere infrastructure. “It embodies a vision for a brighter future,” she stated. “It is a place where our children, the future doctors, lawyers, accountants, professors, engineers, police and military officers, and most importantly, leaders of POWA, will receive quality education that nurtures their mind, strengthens their character and prepares them for a successful life.”

The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed, Executive Governor of Bauchi State, who served as the chief host and chairman of the occasion.
Represented by his special adviser on legal matters, Hon. Barr. Jidauna Tula, Governor Mohammed lauded POWA’s initiatives and pledged the Bauchi State Government’s support for future educational projects and other sectors.
Also present was the Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Alh. Yahaya Inuwa, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar. Alhaji Yakubu A. Maishanu, OON, Chairman/CEO of A.Y.M Shafa Holdings, the chief launcher, was represented by his wife, Hajiya Mariya Yakubu Maishanu.
Other notable attendees included the Chairman of the Occasion, Alhaji Bala Wunti, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Zone 12 Headquarters, AIG Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu psc, and his wife, as well as the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State, CP Sanni-Omolori Aliyu psc(+),mni, among other invited guests.
This initiative highlights the joint commitment of POWA and the Nigeria Police Force to enhance access to quality education, improve the welfare of police families and their communities, and leverage education and empowerment for youth development and national progress.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its dedication to leading strategic social impact programs that foster responsible citizens and sustainable community development.
