Abuja, Nigeria – Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, asserted on Tuesday that the increasing number of politicians defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a direct result of President Bola Tinubu’s effective leadership and policy implementation.
Speaking to State House Correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, Sule attributed the surge in APC membership to the administration’s “direction and achievements.”
“People who are happy with what they are seeing, they are the people who are returning to the party,” Sule stated, dismissing concerns about a drift towards a one-party state. “The party is doing well, and for that reason, the President is also doing well. And that is the reason why people are joining.”

Sule highlighted key reforms implemented by Tinubu, including the unification of exchange rates, the removal of fuel subsidies, and advancements in the power sector. He also emphasized the administration’s focus on skill acquisition and agriculture.
“These are real reforms that matter to the people,” he said.
Addressing allegations of a looming one-party state, Sule countered, “There is no way we can be a one-party state. We just want to be the dominant party.” He drew a parallel with the United States, noting the dominance of the Democratic and Republican parties while acknowledging the presence of other parties. “We just want to be the party that wins 90 per cent of the votes. The other parties can have 10 per cent,” he quipped.
In addition to political matters, Governor Sule provided updates on the Lithium battery production in Nasarawa State. He announced the commissioning of a facility capable of producing three million metric tons per annum, with a larger facility set to open in two months.
“In fact, the next one is going to be three times the size of the first. And there are about three others in the pipeline before the end of the year,” he revealed.
Sule attributed the rapid development of the Lithium value chain to Nasarawa’s peaceful environment and its emergence as a mining and renewable energy hub. He also explained the state’s high number of mini-grids, linking it to the growing number of small-scale operations in agriculture and mining.
Regarding the purpose of his visit, Sule stated, “Mr. President is the leader of our party and of the country. As the Governor of Nasarawa, I came to discuss issues affecting my state and the party, especially within my region.”
