The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidates from the 2024 Local Government Elections in Kwara State have called for unity and intensified grassroots efforts as the party prepares for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
They made the call during a meeting held at Altruism House , Odota , Ilorin on Wednesday.
In a press statement signed by Comr Esinrogunjo Musbau, CEO of Altruism House and obtained by Gbetu TV, the candidates condemned the previous local council polls conducted by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) as a “charade” riddled with irregularities.

The candidates claimed victories in most local government areas (LGAs) during the polls, alleging their wins were “stolen in broad daylight.” They further accused KWASIEC of declaring All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates as winners in some LGAs where no elections occurred.
Despite these setbacks, the PDP vowed to remain undeterred, pledging to promote peace and democracy across the state.
With the 2027 gubernatorial election gaining momentum, the candidates urged PDP members to adhere to the rules and maintain unity despite growing support for multiple aspirants. “Only one individual will fly the party’s ticket,” the statement noted, emphasizing that internal rivalries should not create friction. The PDP expressed confidence in its strategic position to reclaim power in 2027, calling for decency and decorum in political activities.
The candidates stressed the need for robust grassroots mobilization, encouraging members to educate communities about the “suffering and hunger” under the APC-led government. They reassured supporters that the PDP would restore hope and deliver progress by 2027, declaring, “No retreat, no surrender.
The statement commended former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki for his steadfast support and praised PDP members for their resilience and courage. The candidates expressed optimism that the party would soon restore Kwara State’s “lost glory.
