Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo, popularly known as Mama G, has vehemently denied recent allegations of land grabbing leveled against her by a widow and her daughter. The accusations, which went viral across social media, claimed Ozokwo had unlawfully seized a property belonging to the grieving family, reportedly because the widow did not have a male heir. However, Ozokwo has broken her silence, terming the claims “blackmail, fraud, and malicious intent” and declaring her intent to pursue legal action.
The controversy ignited after a video surfaced online, showing a widow and her daughter emotionally narrating how the renowned actress had allegedly taken over their late husband and father’s land without consent. The emotional plea quickly garnered public sympathy, leading to widespread condemnation of the actress and calls for accountability.

In a detailed statement released on her official Instagram account, Patience Ozokwo presented her side of the story, clarifying the timeline and circumstances surrounding the land in question. According to the actress, she legally purchased the property in 2010, approximately fifteen years ago. She stated that the widow herself initiated the sale, approaching Ozokwo’s agent to find a buyer for the land.
Ozokwo further explained that the current dispute arose in 2023, fourteen years after the original transaction, when she discovered that the same woman attempted to resell a portion of the already-sold land without her knowledge or consent. To secure her legitimate ownership, Ozokwo proceeded to fence the land. She believes this action triggered the online backlash and the subsequent accusations.
“This is blackmail, fraud and malicious intent,” Ozokwo wrote in her statement. “I am marvelled that they could viciously lie and castigate me for their own selfish intent. They are using my name to trend and get pity from people. I see that their plans are working because some people are donating to them and calling me unprintable names.”
The actress also expressed her disappointment with media outlets and bloggers who amplified the story without proper verification. “Social media is not a court,” she emphasized, reiterating her commitment to resolving the matter through legal channels. “I am pursuing legal means to vindicate my name because it took years to build and is my source of livelihood.”
Patience Ozokwo, a prominent figure in Nollywood since the late 1990s, is known for her iconic roles, often portraying strong, sometimes villainous, characters. Her career spans over a hundred films, and she is also an ordained evangelist. This public dispute marks a significant challenge to her long-standing reputation.
Ozokwo concluded her statement by thanking her supporters and issuing a stern warning to those who have spread unverified information: “Now I say to you, ‘Meet Me in Court’.” The case is expected to unfold legally, as both parties now seem poised for a court battle to ascertain the truth of the matter.
