OYC Backs Soludo's Security Law, Calls for Drones to Combat Insecurity in Anambra

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Anambra State Chapter, in conjunction with its National Executive Council, has pledged robust partnership with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to advance youth empowerment and enhance security across the state.

The commitment was a key outcome of a strategic Pre-State Congress/Executive Meeting held on Thursday, June 6, 2025, in Onitsha.

The OYC lauded Governor Soludo for his proactive measures, specifically commending the implementation of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, hailed as a “bold and commendable move,” and the successful training of 15,000 youths through the “One-Youth-Two-Skills” initiative. The youth body recognized these efforts as crucial steps towards strengthening internal security and equipping young people with sustainable livelihood skills.

Building on these successes, the OYC resolved to actively collaborate with the State Government to expand the reach of youth empowerment programs. This partnership will focus on identifying and mobilizing thousands of youths who were unable to participate in the initial training phases. The OYC plans to attach these youths to certified skill acquisition workshops across Anambra, providing mentorship and tracking their progress to ensure proper integration into the empowerment framework. Crucially, the council will also support their post-training start-up phases to foster self-reliance and productivity.

In a significant call for a modern approach to security, the OYC urged the State Government and security agencies to prioritize technological upgrades. The council specifically advocated for the deployment of armed aerial surveillance drones in forested and remote areas, particularly near state borders and insecurity flashpoints. This, they believe, will be instrumental in neutralizing “foreign terrorists and criminal herdsmen” currently threatening rural dwellers. The OYC emphasized the need for technology-driven intelligence gathering to reduce reliance on conventional patrols and minimize casualties among local security personnel.

Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to peace and progress, the Ohanaeze Youth Council expressed its dedication to working hand-in-hand with the government to foster development, support youth-centered policies, and promote community-driven security and civic engagement initiatives.

Comrade Onuoha Eberechukwu, Chairman of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, Anambra State, emphasized that “strategic youth engagement and modern security technology are key to restoring full peace and economic vitality in Anambra State.” He called upon all stakeholders, including the private sector, traditional institutions, and religious bodies, to unite with the government in building a safe and prosperous homeland for all.
