Ilesa, Osun State – The Osun State Government has issued a public clarification regarding the ongoing Ereja Square/Ilesa Roundabout to Ilesa/Akure Expressway project, particularly for residents of Ilesa. The announcement aims to manage public expectations concerning the asphalt laid on portions of the road.
According to a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the asphalt currently visible on both ends of the road is merely the “first layer.” This initial layer, covering approximately 4 kilometers of the total 12-kilometer road, was specifically laid to mitigate dust nuisance in anticipation of the coronation ceremony of the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Clement Adesuyi Hastrup. The coronation was scheduled for Friday, May 23, 2024.

The government emphasized that this initial paving was a temporary measure to ensure a more comfortable environment during the significant event.
Commissioner Alimi assured the public that immediately following the coronation ceremony, work would resume on the project. The remaining first layer would be completed, and subsequently, the second and third layers of asphalt would be added. The comprehensive project also includes the installation of solar-powered street lights.
The Osun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects. The announcement stressed that the administration “will never compromise on standard on any of its projects in line with global best practices.”
