The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Okaikwei North, Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger, has raised concerns over street lighting and sanitation issues within the municipality during a meeting of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) held in Accra.
According to Hon. Badger, the assembly has procured 342 streetlights which have been installed in collaboration with assembly members and technical teams across the eleven electoral areas.
He noted, however, that challenges remain along key sections of the N1 highway, particularly from Pimples Roundabout through Akweteyman to Ashawo Market Junction, and further down to Kata. To address this, five contractors have been engaged to fix streetlights on stretches including Pimples Roundabout to GIMPA and from Achimota Police Station to the new terminal overhead bridge. Additional works are expected on the ApenkwaโNeoplanโNsawam stretch.

Hon. Badger also acknowledged the contribution of the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, who has procured 300 streetlights for distribution across the municipality.
On sanitation, the MCE revealed that upon assuming office, he encountered large heaps of refuse along the N1, particularly from Lapaz to Pimples Zone. Within three days, the assembly deployed DRIP machines to clear the waste. He further announced that a two-shift waste collection system has been introduced, where compactors operate in the morning and evening to ensure effective refuse evacuation.
He disclosed that the assembly has procured new sanitation equipment and will launch a Sanitation Guard initiative in November, aimed at strengthening waste management across the two constituencies under Okaikwei North.
