Ohanaeze Youth Council Condemns Alleged Bombing of Civilians in Anambra, Calls for Justice and Investigation

OYC Anambra Hails Governor Soludo's Homeland Security Law, YES

Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria – The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Anambra State Chapter, has vehemently condemned the reported aerial bombardment of innocent civilians in the Ihembosi community, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

 

In a press release dated May 11, 2025, and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Onuoha Endurance Ebelechukwu, the OYC expressed deep shock, sorrow, and total condemnation of the incident, which allegedly resulted in grievous loss of lives and devastation.

The OYC stated that the incident, which reportedly targeted an area with no active conflict or threat, led to the tragic deaths of unarmed civilians, including women, children, and vulnerable community members.

Describing the alleged action as a “barbaric and reckless military action on peaceful indigenous people,” the OYC asserted that it constitutes a clear violation of human rights, international humanitarian law, and the sanctity of life.

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization strongly condemned this “brutal use of force” and called on the Federal Government, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and relevant authorities to take immediate responsibility for what they termed an “avoidable massacre.”

The OYC outlined several demands, including:
* The immediate launch of a transparent and independent investigation into the incident.

* The identification and compensation of the families of the victims.

* Ensuring that those found culpable face the full legal and disciplinary consequences.

* The adoption of safeguards by the Nigerian military to avoid further civilian casualties in peaceful South-East communities.

 

In a separate statement, also attributed to Comrade Onuoha Endurance Ebelechukwu, the OYC reiterated its stance, stating that the “aggression in Igbo land suggests a disturbing disregard for the lives and dignity of our people.” The OYC vowed not to remain idle while communities are turned into “theatres of bloodshed” and announced active engagement with legal and civil rights bodies to pursue redress.

The organization called on Igbo leaders, traditional institutions, and civil society to unite and demand accountability. They emphasized their unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and respect for the rights of all Nigerian citizens, asserting that the safety of their people is non-negotiable.

 

The OYC concluded by expressing their hope that the souls of the victims find peace and that justice is not delayed or denied.
