According to reports from York News Dewatering, the 47-year-old Nigerian health professional carried out the assaults while the patient was bedridden and in severe pain due to a serious medical condition. The York Crown Court heard that the victim was “particularly vulnerable” and barely able to move during the time of the attacks.

Kudabo, who had arrived in the UK just nine months before the incident, was employed as a healthcare assistant at the hospital. He kissed the patient on the lips against her will shortly after giving her a bed bath. The woman attempted to turn her head away but was unable to stop the unwanted contact.

On a second occasion, a few days later, Kudabo again kissed the victim—this time after she had refused his offer of assistance. The incident left her feeling frightened, powerless, and traumatized.

The emotional toll of the incidents has been severe. In a statement read in court, the victim said she continues to suffer from depression, anxiety attacks, and a deep loss of trust in others. She experiences flashbacks and struggles with the trauma daily.

Prosecutor Henry Fernandez explained that the assault happened at a time when the woman was experiencing excruciating pain and was unable to protect herself.

Kudabo, a married man living in the South Bank area of York, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault. During police questioning, he claimed he acted out of “sympathy” and initially denied the extent of the misconduct, saying he had only kissed the woman on the forehead.

His defense barrister, Jerry Sodipe, admitted the actions were “inappropriate,” but the court proceeded with sentencing. On June 10, 2025, Kudabo was sentenced to 12 months in prison, with only half of the term to be served in custody before release.

This case has raised serious concerns about patient safety, especially for those in vulnerable conditions within healthcare settings. It also highlights the need for strict background checks, professional ethics enforcement, and zero tolerance for abuse in the UK healthcare system
