Nigeria Police Force Reintroduces Digital Tinted Glass Permit System

Nigerian Police Defends Tinted Glass Permit Policy Amid NBA Legal Challenge

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the reactivation of the Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) issuance nationwide through a digital platform, accessible at possap.gov.ng. This initiative, directed by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, comes in response to public complaints about the harassment of motorists with tinted windows and the need for a transparent process for vehicles with factory-fitted tinted glass.

Reasons for Reactivation

According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the reintroduction of the TGP system aims to address the misuse of tinted vehicles for criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and scams. Tinted windows obstruct police visibility and hinder law enforcement efforts. The new system is designed to identify legitimate users, including individuals with medical needs and security personnel, while preventing criminal exploitation.

Enforcement

A 30-day grace period, effective from May 1st, 2025, has been granted for motorists to comply with the new regulations. Enforcement will commence after this period, and officers engaging in unprofessional conduct will face disciplinary action.
