MINNA, NIGER STATE – In a decisive move aimed at prioritizing the safety of its citizens, the Niger State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai. The directive, issued by Governor Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, comes in response to recent security breaches and the tragic loss of lives within the university community.
The decision, effective immediately and until further notice, underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all residents, particularly students.
In a statement released on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, conveyed the profound sadness of the Niger State government regarding the recent incidents.

“The safety and security of all citizens, including the students, remain a top priority for the government,” the statement read. It further emphasized that “measures are being taken to address the situation swiftly.”

The government assured the public that it is working diligently to restore order, ensure the safety of all citizens, and maintain peace throughout the state.
