Accra, Ghana – – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus in Parliament has issued a statement asserting that it will not interfere in the contractual decisions of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) regarding its sanitation module contract with Zoomlion.
According to a press release signed by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga MP, the NDC Parliamentary Caucus has not authorized the Sanitation Committee of Parliament to intervene in the YEA’s decisions concerning the Zoomlion contract.

Ayariga stated that the Chairman of the Committee has clarified that neither he nor any committee member has attempted to influence the matter, contradicting recent media reports.
He emphasized that any comments made by members of the Sanitation Committee that appear to defend Zoomlion’s contract with the YEA should be disregarded by both the YEA and the public, as they do not reflect the official position of the Committee or Parliament.
Furthermore, the Majority Leader cautioned Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies against succumbing to intimidation to enter into sanitation contracts with any specific company. He reminded the Assemblies of President John Dramani Mahama’s directive from the last parliamentary session, which mandated that 80% of the Common Fund be directly allocated to them, granting them independence in determining their development priorities.
The statement aims to clarify the NDC Caucus’s stance on the YEA-Zoomlion contract and underscore the autonomy of the Assemblies in their local development decisions.
