ILORIN, NIGERIA – A distressing incident occurred at Ọjà Ọba market in Ilorin on Monday, April 22nd, at approximately 4:20 pm, leaving a market woman in critical condition.
According to eyewitness accounts, officials from the Civil Defence Corps seized goods from the woman for allegedly selling by the roadside, which subsequently led to her collapsing.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the Civil Defence officials were present when the woman fainted. However, instead of providing aid, they reportedly fled the scene swiftly in their vehicle, leaving the unconscious woman behind.
Fellow market vendors and bystanders immediately rushed to the woman’s aid, attempting to revive her. However, their efforts proved unsuccessful for over 30 minutes. Witnesses described the scene as alarming, stating that the woman appeared lifeless and showed no signs of breathing despite attempts to rouse her. She was eventually rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention.
