Accra, Ghana – President John Dramani Mahama has officially cleared Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, over a recent controversy involving him handing an undisclosed amount of US dollars to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa.
The decision comes despite widespread criticism and calls for Gyamfi’s dismissal from various civil society groups and members of the minority caucus.
The incident had raised significant concerns regarding potential breaches of Ghana’s Foreign Exchange Act and the established Code of Conduct for public appointees.

However, President Mahama has opted to accept Gyamfi’s public apology and has instead issued a stern warning.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of Government Communications, confirmed the President’s decision, stating, “The President has accepted the apology from Mr. Sammy Gyamfi… While the incident is regrettable, no further action will be taken. However, a firm warning has been issued to Mr. Gyamfi and all public appointees to strictly adhere to the Code of Conduct and act at all times in a manner that upholds public confidence.”
The Minister further emphasized President Mahama’s unwavering commitment to accountability and ethical governance, asserting that the circumstances of this particular situation did not warrant Gyamfi’s removal from his position.
This decision effectively closes the chapter on the controversial matter, with an expectation that Sammy Gyamfi and all other public appointees under the current administration will exercise heightened caution and adherence to ethical guidelines in their future actions.
