The Ministry of Roads and Highways has officially awarded the long-awaited No. 1 to Abromase road project to Skycon Ghana Ltd, marking a major infrastructure breakthrough for Salaga-South Constituency. As of October 25, 2025, the contractor has begun mobilizing heavy equipment and resources, with preliminary works already underway — including chippings being tipped just after Sawaba in preparation for concrete surfacing.
The announcement, confirmed by the Ministry’s Regional Director during a site visit on Friday, signals the start of a 12.6 km dual-carriage asphalt road that will connect No. 1, Kulaw, Lor Ekun, and Abromase, easing transport bottlenecks and boosting trade in this agricultural heartland.
On-Site Progress: “Work Has Truly Started”
Residents gathered in excitement as Skycon Ghana Ltd deployed:
– Graders and tipper trucks along the Sawaba stretch.
– Chippings stockpiled for base layering.
– Survey teams marking drainage and alignment points.

Site Engineer Mr. Kwame Asare told journalists:
“We are fully mobilized. Earthworks begin next week, followed by culvert installation and asphalt paving. The project will be completed in 18 months.”
The road, budgeted at GHS 86 million, includes:
– Street lighting in Kulaw and Lor Ekun.
– Sidewalks and drainage to prevent flooding.
– Two bridges over seasonal streams.
A Dream Realized: Gratitude to Mahama, Minister, and MP
Community leaders and residents have poured out gratitude to the key architects of the project:
“A heartfelt thank you to H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Roads and Highways, and our ever-dedicated Member of Parliament, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah for making this possible.”
— Joint statement from Kulaw and Lor Ekun Development Committees
Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah (NDC, Salaga-South), who lobbied tirelessly for the project since 2021, said at a community durbar:
“This road is not just concrete — it’s a lifeline. It will cut travel time from Salaga to Abromase from 2 hours to 25 minutes, open markets for shea butter and yam farmers, and bring ambulances faster to our clinics.”
She credited President Mahama’s infrastructure renewal agenda, noting that 17 feeder roads in Savannah Region have been awarded since January 2025.
Economic and Social Impact
The project is expected to:
- Create 350 direct jobs (engineers, masons, laborers).
- Reduce post-harvest losses by 40% for local farmers.
- Improve school attendance in Lor Ekun (currently 60% due to muddy paths in rainy season).
- Boost trade with neighboring Burkina Faso via improved border access.
Nana Obiri Yeboah, Chief of Kulaw, declared:
“For 20 years, we carried sick people on motorbikes to Salaga. Today, Mahama and Hajia Zuwera have answered our prayers. Ɛyɛ zu!”

Why This Matters
In a region where 70% of roads are untarred (Ghana Highway Authority, 2025), the No. 1–Abromase road is a symbol of inclusive development. It aligns with the NDC’s 24-Hour Economy policy by enabling night transport of goods and emergency services.
The No. 1 to Abromase road is no longer a campaign promise — it’s under construction. Thanks to President Mahama’s vision, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, and the relentless advocacy of Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, the people of Salaga-South are finally getting the infrastructure they deserve.
As chippings pile up after Sawaba, hope is being laid — one stone at a time.
