MAAUN Shuts Down Female Hostels Over Safety, Disciplinary Breaches

Kano, Nigeria – The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure of the Al-Ansar Indabo female students’ hostels at Hotoro and UDB Road in Kano, citing serious safety and disciplinary concerns. The university announced it has withdrawn its approval for the hostels due to “violation of its code of conduct.”

The decision was revealed in a statement issued Monday by Dr. Hamza Garba, the university’s Vice President, Campus Life. He stated that the move is part of MAAUN’s commitment to ensuring “safe, secure, and morally upright accommodation” for its students.

“I am directed by the management to write, inform, and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents and students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo female students hostels located at UDB Road and Hotoro,” the statement read.

Dr. Garba explained that the hostels failed to comply with university regulations for private student accommodations, leading to “various infractions.”

These include “reported cases of immoral behaviour, poor water and electricity supply, student violence, unauthorised movement at night, and the sharing of facilities with unknown tenants.”

He stressed, “These issues pose a serious threat to the well-being of our students.”

As a result, all affected students must vacate the Al-Ansar Indabo hostels immediately after the current semester examinations.

The university has also warned students against any further association with the facilities, emphasizing their “own safety and security.”

MAAUN’s management confirmed it is “working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure total compliance with the directive.”

Students and parents needing guidance on approved and secure hostel options can contact the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life, at vp-campuslife@maaun.edu.ng. The university also stated it would not be responsible for any consequences arising from non-compliance with the directive.
