According to the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident occurred as the legal team, along with two other individuals, were returning from High Court II Ekwulobia in Orumba North Local Government Area.

CP Orutugu has ordered an intensive investigation into the incident, deploying tactical and intelligence teams to track down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
Preliminary investigations suggest the victims were attacked after being trailed and double-crossed by the assailants. A red Toyota Camry vehicle, believed to belong to one of the deceased, was recovered from the scene during the initial investigation.
The lone survivor of the attack is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital. Police confirmed that the survivor has been debriefed and has provided crucial information that is assisting ongoing investigations and manhunt operations.
