On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) Mass Communication Department, in collaboration with the DSE Foundation, hosted a landmark event celebrating the enduring legacy of Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, the iconic journalist and former Governor of Lagos State.

Themed “Journalism in the Digital Age: Lessons From Jakande’s Legacy,” the symposium brought together seasoned media professionals and academics to discuss the critical role of ethics and credibility in contemporary journalism.

Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, former Editor-in-Chief of Vanguard Newspapers, delivered a powerful keynote address. He passionately urged journalists to uphold the highest standards of credibility amidst the rapid advancements of the digital age.

Adefaye emphasized the importance of embracing modern tools like data journalism while remaining steadfastly committed to Jakande’s unwavering ethical principles. He underscored a fundamental truth: “Journalism is a mission-driven civic enterprise, not a commercial cartel,” a statement that resonated deeply with the audience.

A distinguished panel of media luminaries, including Chief Monzor Olowosago, Mr. Taiwo Obe, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, and LTV’s Mrs. Adesola Kosoko, echoed Adefaye’s call for integrity and credibility in digital storytelling.
