ISESE DAY CELEBRATION: SANWO-OLU’S AIDE PAYS HOMAGE TO OBA OF LAGOS, OTHERS

As part of activities marking this year’s Isese Day, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, on Wednesday, led a delegation of the Ministry’s staff on a visit to four eminent traditional rulers in the State.

 

The royal fathers visited include the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu I; the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba (Dr.) Abdul Kabir Adewale Shotobi, who is also celebrating his 10th year on the throne, the Elegushi of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, and the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdul-Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal.

Speaking during the visits, Aregbe described the annual Isese Day as a profound celebration of Yoruba culture, heritage, and traditions, stressing that it reflects the state’s rich ancestral roots, which must continually be protected, preserved, and promoted.

The Special Adviser also conveyed the goodwill message of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to the monarchs. At the palace of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, he congratulated the monarch on his impactful 10 years on the throne and prayed for many more successful years in service to his people.

 

In his response, Oba Shotobi expressed deep appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the honour of the visit. He assured him of Ikorodu’s unwavering support for initiatives that promote peace, unity, and cultural advancement.

The monarch also highlighted the ongoing collaboration with UNESCO on cultural preservation and unveiled plans for further engagements in this regard. He offered prayers for Governor Sanwo-Olu, the State, and all present at the celebration.

The delegation thereafter proceeded to the palaces of the Oba of Lagos, the Elegushi of Ikateland, and the Oniru of Iruland, where special prayers were offered for the continued progress of Lagos State and the well-being of its people.

Mr. Aregbe reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, respecting all religious beliefs, and promoting cultural heritage and festivals as vital tools for unity, peace, and sustainable development.
