Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended its online media accreditation deadline for the upcoming August 16, 2025 bye-elections, urging more journalists and media organizations to participate. The move comes as the commission reports a significantly low turnout in applications, falling “far below expectations.”
“As of 3:00 PM (today), Wednesday, July 23, 2025, INEC had received only 12 applications from 91 persons seeking accreditation to cover the crucial bye-elections. This low registration prompted the commission to extend the portal’s availability until 12:00 AM (midnight) on Thursday, July 31, 2025. Late applications will not be entertained.
