I resigned as Presidential aide over disappointment: Baba – Ahmed

In a candid interview on ARISE TV that’s now making waves online, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has spoken out about his underwhelming experience serving in the administration. The political heavyweight, who previously held a key role in the Office of the Vice President, revealed that his expectations were not met during his time in government.

Baba-Ahmed clarified that while he joined the administration with optimism, the reality on ground proved otherwise. When asked about rumours that Vice President Kashim Shettima is being sidelined, he downplayed the idea, saying such perceptions are not new in Nigerian politics. “If a president doesn’t see the vice president’s office as essential, we’ve seen that play out many times before,” he said.

Highlighting structural gaps, Baba-Ahmed emphasized that vice presidents often lack clearly defined roles despite their rank. He said that although he interacted with Vice President Shettima regularly, “just seeing him and speaking to him isn’t the same as being effective in that role.”

Perhaps most strikingly, Baba-Ahmed admitted he only saw President Tinubu three times—each time in the mosque at the presidential villa. “I never had the opportunity to sit down and talk with him,” he said, lamenting that Tinubu seemed disconnected from many of those working under him. “That’s a serious issue—not just for those of us who served, but for the country,” he stressed.

Baba-Ahmed described the president as “genuinely isolated,” warning that such distance limits the quality of advice he receives. “Listening to those close to him, it sometimes feels like they live in a different Nigeria entirely,” he added, calling it one of the most frustrating aspects of his service.

As social media buzzes with reactions and political analysts weigh in, this interview has reignited conversations around transparency, leadership style, and the inner workings of Nigeria’s current administration.
