Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah Promotes Ghana’s Gender Policies in Rwanda

Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, Vice Chairperson of Ghana’s Parliamentary Committee on Gender, Children, and Social Welfare, recently engaged with Rwanda’s Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF) and the Rwandan Parliament’s Gender Committee. The visit reinforced her dedication to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment while providing a platform to share Ghana’s experiences in promoting inclusive governance.

 

During the discussions, Hon. Ibrahimah spoke on Ghana’s key legislative milestones, including the Affirmative Action Act, which seeks to increase women’s representation in decision-making roles, and the Social Protection Bill, designed to safeguard vulnerable populations such as women and children. She also emphasized the critical role of local government systems in driving development programs and fostering community participation, stressing their importance in promoting social justice and inclusive growth.

The engagement focused on knowledge sharing, collaboration, and capacity building. Ibrahimah underscored the role of democratic principles and participatory governance in ensuring equality and social justice for all.

Through the discussions, Hon. Ibrahimah contributed to South-South cooperation between Ghana and Rwanda on gender-related initiatives. The collaboration aims to enhance women’s participation in governance and community development while creating opportunities for shared learning and technical support.

 

The visit reflects Ghana’s ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering vulnerable populations.
