Hon. Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah Joins GNPC at Africa Oil Week as Ghana Marks 40 Years in Petroleum Industry

Ghana’s growing influence in Africa’s energy sector was on full display at the Africa Oil Week celebration in Accra. The gathering brought together leaders, investors and policymakers from across the continent to deliberate on petroleum opportunities and the future of energy transformation. With more than 1,600 delegates from over 70 countries in attendance, the event reaffirmed Ghana’s rising position in shaping Africa’s energy outlook.

The highlight of the ceremony came when Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, was sworn in as President of the African Petroleum Producers Association. His elevation was seen as recognition of his leadership and as a strong vote of confidence in Ghana’s place within the continental petroleum community.

Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, Member of Parliament for Salaga South, joined the GNPC board to take part in the event. Her participation underlined parliamentary support for Ghana’s petroleum ambitions and the importance of maintaining a national presence at international energy forums where critical decisions are made.

The Africa Oil Week was also tied to the 40th anniversary of GNPC. The milestone was marked by a series of ceremonies that began with an official dinner at the presidency hosted by the Vice President. The celebrations reached a high point when former President John Dramani Mahama officially launched the anniversary at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.

For four decades, GNPC has played a central role in the growth of Ghana’s petroleum sector, from exploration to capacity building and industry development. The anniversary served as a reminder of how far the corporation has come, and how much further it must go as the country balances energy needs with the demands of a changing global market.
