Governor Otti to convert New Abia Govt house to five star Hotel
In a bold move toward accountability and infrastructure renewal, the Abia State Government has announced plans to replace the controversial Government House complex built by the previous administration.
During an official inspection of the Government House complex earlier this week, Prince Okey Kanu, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, made a significant announcement. He declared the current structure, which was constructed under the administration of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, as “uninhabitable and a security risk.”

Speaking to reporters after the tour, Kanu criticized the former government for what he described as a rushed and substandard project. He pointed out that the building was hastily inaugurated just 24 hours before the end of Ikpeazu’s tenure, calling the gesture a “political gimmick” rather than a genuine infrastructural achievement.
According to Commissioner Kanu, Governor Alex Otti’s administration is not only aware of the safety concerns surrounding the current complex but is already taking decisive steps to correct them. Plans are currently underway to build a new, modern, and secure Government House on the same site.
The decision to replace the existing structure aligns with the Otti administration’s broader agenda of transparency, good governance, and responsible public spending. The goal, Kanu emphasized, is to provide Abians with a seat of government that reflects integrity, safety, and long-term functionality.
This development has stirred conversations among political observers and residents alike. Many see it as a necessary step toward reversing a legacy of hasty and poorly executed projects. Others are calling for a thorough audit of public infrastructure commissioned in the final days of the previous administration.
For citizens of Abia State, the prospect of a properly built and safe Government House could signify a turning point in leadership accountability and infrastructural planning.
Governor Alex Otti’s administration appears committed to setting new standards in governance. With the rejection of the Ikpeazu-era Government House and the planned construction of a new one, Abia State is poised for a new chapter of development — one that places quality, security, and the public’s interest at the center of all government projects.
