Gomoa Bantama Odikro Mourns Helicopter Crash Victims, Appeals for Roads and Police Support

The Odikro of Gomoa Bantama Millennium City in the Central Region, Nana Kwesi Amoani I, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom, which claimed the lives of Ghana’s Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, Hon. Mohammed Murtala, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, and six other Ghanaians.

In a statement to GBETU TV, Nana Kwesi Amoani I, described the incident as “painful and sorrowful,” emphasizing that these prominent leaders died in the line of duty out of love and service for Ghana. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, urging the nation to mourn with compassion and understanding.

He cautioned the public against making reckless or superstitious remarks about the cause of the crash.

“A helicopter is a machine. Like any other, it can fail unexpectedly. We should not rush to blame others or attribute the tragedy solely to spiritual causes,” he advised.

The chief stressed the importance of supporting the affected families during such tragedies rather than engaging in blame games.

“Accidents are unpredictable. No one knows when or how they will die. Let’s be measured and respectful in our commentary,” he added.

According to Nana Amoani I, even the President would not have sent the officials if he had foreseen the tragedy.

“We must speak with wisdom and sensitivity when such misfortunes occur. Yes, spiritual matters exist, but not every tragedy should be framed that way,” he noted.

He also urged Ghanaians to consider the children and dependents of the deceased and support them in any way possible.

Nana Kwesi Amoani I, took the opportunity to appeal to the government to construct the Gomoa Millennium City Road, describing the area as a growing urban center serving residents from Nyanyano, Fetteh Kakraba, and nearby communities.

“During the COVID-19 era, our community accommodated infected persons when other towns rejected them. The land of Pentecost welcomed them. We deserve good roads,” he emphasized.

He also called attention to the inadequate educational facilities and logistics for schools in the area. In addition, he expressed concern over the lack of adequate vehicles for the local police, which affects timely response to emergencies.

“Sometimes when incidents occur, the police arrive late—not because they don’t care, but because they don’t have enough vehicles,” he explained.

He praised Police Commissioner Tanko for his efforts within the Pentecost Division and appealed to the government to provide more vehicles and logistics for both the District and Divisional Police Commands.
