Nollywood actor Godwin Nnadiekwe has been hospitalized with internal bleeding after a serious on-set incident involving fellow actor Zubby Micheal.
Nnadiekwe alleges that the kick he received to the chest was not part of the script or directed by the production team, sparking renewed concerns about safety protocols within the Nigerian film industry.
The incident came to light after Nnadiekwe shared details on his Instagram account, initially refraining from naming the individual involved but emphasizing the seriousness of the injury. He stated that the unexpected kick caused him significant pain and that he had to seek medical attention on his own, without immediate support from the production crew or on-set first aid.

“During a scene, I received a kick to the chest from my colleague that wasn’t part of the script or directed by the director,” Nnadiekwe wrote in his initial post. “It caused me serious pains. Had to get medication for my chest to feel better today. I did all these by myself. No assistance!”
Shortly after his initial revelation, Nnadiekwe’s management released a public statement confirming his condition had worsened and he had been rushed to the hospital. The statement explicitly named Zubby Micheal as the colleague involved in the incident. “We regret to inform you that Actor Godwin Nnadiekwe was rushed to the hospital this evening,” the statement read.
“He is undergoing treatment for internal bleeding following an incident involving a kick on the chest during filming with his colleague, Zubby Michael.”
A now-viral video clip, uploaded by Nnadiekwe himself, reportedly shows Zubby Micheal angrily exiting a vehicle, leaping over a barricade, and then kicking Nnadiekwe as he emerges from a building.
The incident has reignited calls for improved safety standards in Nollywood, a recurring concern within the industry. Nnadiekwe himself appealed to the film industry, urging actors and producers to prioritize safety, especially in an environment where many productions reportedly lack adequate insurance, medical support, or structured safety protocols.

Industry experts and stakeholders have frequently highlighted the lack of comprehensive safety measures on Nollywood sets. Issues such as insufficient budgeting for safety, inadequate first aid, and the absence of skilled personnel to supervise potentially dangerous scenes have been persistent problems.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has stated that it has articulated safety measures in its revised bye-laws and is working to enforce them, including provisions for standard first aid, emergency action plans, and adequate insurance coverage. However, incidents like Nnadiekwe’s underscore the challenges in consistently implementing these protocols across all productions.
As Godwin Nnadiekwe recovers, the focus remains on his health and the urgent need for a more robust and enforced safety framework to protect Nollywood practitioners. His management has assured the public and the AGN board of timely updates on his condition.
