Nigerian Vice-President, Sen. Kashim Shettima hailed a legal luminary Mallam Yusuf Ali SAN on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his Yusuf Ali and Co Chambers ( Ghalib chambers).

The VP said Ali and his partners have gone this far because of their high commitment to the lofty fight for justice to the length of keeping the truth alive even when it came with a price and it is extremely challenging for them to do so.

Shettima gave the commendation while delivering his speech at the event organized to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ghalib Chambers in Ilorin on Saturday.

He explained that it’s not academic qualifications that make a lawyer, but those who practice justice, believe in justice and believe in the right of every individual to be judged fairly. “Those who stand against conspiracy-undermined decisions and those who dedicate their lives to the government and society in the legal framework prescribed by law. Society fondly remembers those who practice for the sake of the truth” he said.

He noted that the rise and fall of law firms in Nigeria have been witnessed severally, but what sticks in the memory is the quality of service they render and this leaves establishments like Ghalib Chambers in the league of their own.

The Vice President stated that the past 30 years are not only testaments to the business of law for them but also a reminder of the season that they have endured in pursuing the rule of law from the military regime to the present democratic politics. He said mallam Ali has shown what makes an excellent lawyer by working based on the highest legal principles.

In his speech, the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, commended Mallam Yusuf Ali for his philanthropy and immense contributions to legal development in Kwara State.

AbdulRazaq said Ali stands tall in the ranks of Ilorin legal giants and comes immediately after the great Alikalis and other forebears who had made their marks in the legal profession.

He thanked all legal practitioners in Kwara for placing Kwara State on top of the legal map in Nigeria and West Africa.

Represented by the deputy governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, the Governor said the important event came at a critical period in the country when President Tinubu is pushing some legal reforms, which are in the best interest of the nation.
He further said the President is known for his bold visions and his commitment to greater Nigeria.

Similarly, the Chief Justice of the Federation, Mr Olukayode Ariwoola, SAN said the Ghalib Chamber has been of huge blessing by developing people of different magnitudes in the society and creating lawyers of great standard in Nigeria.

Also speaking, the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, said Ghalib Chambers’ aid in developing the root of justice in Nigeria can’t be over-emphasised. and the great work that they have done so far is highly commendable.

In his address, the former governor of Lagos state Babatunde Fashola SAN said there has not been any scandal against Yusuf and his firm, adding that it is a fine example for this generation.


In his remarks, Mallam Yusuf Ali, SAN assured that Yusuf Ali & Co. will not stop but keep up the standard that everyone knows then for. He appreciated the people who have been of great support of the chamber all through these 30-years journey and said they would never let them down.
