Abuja, Nigeria – Contractors engaged by the Federal Government today initiated an indefinite protest at the Accountant General’s Office and the Ministry of Finance Headquarters in Abuja, demanding immediate payment for completed and certified projects.
According to Kabir Tidjani, the Spokesman for Concerned Federal Government Contractors, these contractors have been awaiting payment since October 2024, despite fulfilling all contractual obligations. Tidjani highlighted that many of these businesses relied on loans from financial institutions to finance the projects.

In a statement released to GBETU, Tidjani contrasted the contractors’ plight with the continued funding of government ministries and officials for recurrent expenses, including foreign travel, luxury vehicles, and daily operational costs. He asserted that while these recurrent expenditures are consistently met, contractors who have delivered tangible development projects are left unpaid, pushing their businesses towards collapse and their workers into financial distress.
“We are here because we have no choice left. Our workers are hungry, our debts are mounting, and our businesses are being destroyed by the same government that promised development,” a spokesperson for the protesting contractors stated. “The government must be more sensitive. We have done the work; it is time to pay us.”
Tidjani further declared the contractors’ resolve to maintain a daily presence at the Accountant General’s Office and the Ministry of Finance until payments commence.
“We are also calling on all other contractors and stakeholders who are owed by the Federal Government to join us at these protest locations in the coming days. Together, we will ensure our voices are heard,” he urged.
“This peaceful protest will continue indefinitely until the government fulfills its obligations and releases the funds owed for capital projects that are critical to Nigeria’s development,” Kabir affirmed.
