Benin City, Edo State – – The Edo State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee has issued a strong statement disclaiming an unauthorized meeting notice circulating among party members.
The notice, purportedly issued by former State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, called for a meeting of PDP leaders across Edo’s 18 Local Government Areas on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 22 Sapele Road, Benin City. The stated agenda was to “review the Party situation in Edo State and make decisions on aligning with APC just like Delta State.”
In a press statement released today, the Caretaker Committee, through its current State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bob-Manuel Umoru, unequivocally stated that the meeting notice is “false, misleading, and does not represent the position of the PDP in Edo State.”

The party vehemently denied any plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling such insinuations as “mischievous fabrication” intended to sow discord within their ranks.
While acknowledging the recent defection of PDP structures in Delta State, the Edo PDP affirmed its unwavering unity and commitment to rebuilding and resolving internal issues to regain its electoral strength.
The statement also addressed recent political developments, including Chief Lucky Igbinedion’s public support for a Southern presidential candidate in 2027 and his affiliations with Delta State leaders.
However, the Caretaker Committee asserted that “any attempt to annihilate the PDP in Edo State is nothing but wishful thinking.”
While respecting individuals’ rights to association, the Edo PDP vowed to “not tolerate any clandestine moves to coerce or mislead our members into political merchandise” and affirmed its resolve to defend the party’s integrity against any undermining attacks.
The Caretaker Committee urged all PDP members and supporters across Edo State to “stand firm,” assuring them that the party is “alive, strong, and poised for victory.” They called on everyone to remain calm and disregard any unauthorized statements or meetings.
