In a landmark achievement for Nigerian sports, Dr. Lawrence Ezeudu has been elected as the 2nd Vice President of the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) and Zonal Representative for the South East, marking a historic win that underscores his dedication to judo and youth empowerment. The election, held during the NJF’s 2025 Elective Congress in Abuja, saw Dr. Ezeudu secure the position unopposed, joining a re-elected board led by President Dr. Musa Oshodi for a second term.
The Anambra State Sports Development Commission, through Executive Chairman Mr. Patrick Estate Onyedum, issued a resounding congratulatory message, praising Dr. Ezeudu’s “unwavering commitment to the Judo Federation, his outstanding leadership qualities, and his tireless efforts in promoting sports and good leadership.”
“This victory is a testament to the confidence reposed in him by the people and the entire association,” Mr. Onyedum stated, emphasizing Dr. Ezeudu’s role as a beacon of integrity and courage for Anambra indigenes.

Dr. Oshodi, in his post-election address, outlined a vision for judo’s growth, focusing on grassroots development, professional training for athletes and coaches, and increased media partnerships to attract investors.
Dr. Ezeudu’s Journey: From Anambra Roots to National Leadership
As a proud son of Anambra State, Dr. Lawrence Ezeudu has long been a pillar in the judo community, contributing selflessly to the sport’s stability and expansion. His elevation reflects years of exemplary dedication, including efforts to nurture young talents and foster good governance within the federation.
The Anambra State Sports Development Commission lauded his “integrity, courage, and selfless contributions,” noting that his new role will inspire greater achievements not just in the South East but across Nigeria and beyond. “His dedication to the sport has been exemplary,” the commission’s statement read, adding that Dr. Ezeudu’s leadership will serve humanity at large.
Under his influence, the NJF aims to position judo alongside football, athletics, and wrestling as a premier sport, with initiatives for skill upgrades and sustainable grassroots programs.
In a heartfelt prayer, Mr. Onyedum invoked divine guidance for Dr. Ezeudu: “We pray that Almighty God grants Dr. Lawrence Ezeudu wisdom, strength, and continued success as he discharges his duties both as the Vice President and South East Judo Representative.”
This historic win comes at a pivotal time for Nigerian judo, with the federation seeking stronger ties with the National Sports Commission and Nigeria Olympic Committee to enhance international competitiveness.
Dr. Ezeudu’s role is expected to amplify the South East’s voice in shaping policies that promote inclusivity and excellence in the martial art.
Broader Implications for Nigerian Sports
Dr. Ezeudu’s election aligns with recent successes in Nigerian sports governance, including Dr. Oshodi’s additional role as Secretary General of the West African Judo Union earlier this year.
It signals a renewed focus on regional equity and youth development, potentially boosting judo’s profile ahead of major events like the African Games and Olympics.
The Anambra State Sports Development Commission reiterated its support for Dr. Ezeudu, viewing his achievement as a collective pride for the state. “Once again, congratulations on this well-deserved recognition,” the statement concluded.
