DR. BUKOLA SARAKI: THE UNBREAKABLE ICON OF NIGERIAN DEMOCRACY

DR. BUKOLA SARAKI: THE UNBREAKABLE ICON OF NIGERIAN DEMOCRACY

Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki is like the legendary Nokia 3310—strong, reliable, focused, and unbreakable. In the ever-changing landscape of Nigerian politics, he remains a symbol of resilience and purpose. No matter how fierce the storm, Saraki stands tall, unbothered, and undeterred.

His political journey has been rooted in genuine service. From his time as Governor of Kwara State to his historic tenure as President of the Senate, Saraki’s leadership has always been driven by vision and action, not noise or propaganda. His contributions were not just cosmetic—they were structural, transformational, and enduring.

Time has tested him, but each challenge has only made him stronger. Where others have faltered under pressure, Saraki has emerged from every political battle wiser and more determined. He has been persecuted, betrayed, and targeted, yet he walks with the calm confidence of a man who knows his place in history.

Saraki is a rare figure who connects generations. He carries the legacy of his father, the revered Olusola Saraki, while also speaking the language of the youth. He embodies both tradition and innovation, showing that leadership can be modern without losing its roots.

As governor, he was the architect of modern Kwara. His administration initiated real progress—healthcare reforms, improved education, agricultural initiatives, and infrastructure development that are still referenced today. Kwara State under Saraki was a model of practical governance.

His leadership at the Senate was marked by independence and integrity. Saraki led the National Assembly with wisdom, defending the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers. He protected the Constitution even when it put him at odds with the presidency.

In the face of political warfare, he stood firm. He faced coordinated attacks—from legal harassment to smear campaigns—but he never broke. Instead, he roared back with strategic brilliance and calm defiance.

Unlike others who focus on vanity, Saraki invested in institutions. He established KWASU to expand access to education, created the Ilorin Diagnostic Centre to improve healthcare, and set up Harmony Holdings to boost the state’s economic base. His legacy was built on foundations, not facades.

Within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he is a pillar of strength. He is not only a statesman from Kwara but a national figure whose political wisdom is sought by leaders across the country. He unites factions, calms tensions, and offers strategic direction.

His leadership in Kwara was defined by performance, not propaganda. Loyalty to Saraki is earned through his legacy of action and inclusion, not through media hype or fearmongering. He was—and remains—the true leader Kwara deserves.

As governor, Saraki led with empathy. His policies were not just about figures and frameworks; they were about real people. Civil servants, students, traders, and rural dwellers all had a voice and a place in his government.

He championed youth empowerment in a way that was practical and impactful. He created jobs, offered training, and gave young people a real stake in the economy. It wasn’t about symbolic handouts—it was about real, measurable inclusion.

Even in the face of tyranny, Saraki stood for what was right. He chose to defend democracy, even when it would have been easier to fold and compromise. He remained committed to principle, knowing that history would judge fairly.

Under his Senate leadership, the legislature stood tall and independent. The National Assembly became a co-equal arm of government that could say no when it had to. That was a turning point in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Though globally respected, Saraki has never lost touch with home. Whether at global summits or international panels, he speaks for Ilorin, for Kwara, and for Nigeria. His local impact is never overshadowed by his international presence.

In painful contrast, Kwara State today is under the leadership of a man whose governance is defined by mediocrity and misinformation. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is the antithesis of everything Saraki represents—an accidental leader with no vision or purpose.

His administration survives not on development but on public relations. Projects are hyped before they begin, and achievements are celebrated on social media long before they reach the people.

Propaganda has replaced policy. The current government thrives on deceit, inflated figures, and doctored visuals. Behind every painted wall lies a broken system that the public can see but the government pretends does not exist.

Where Saraki united, Abdulrahman divides. He runs a government of vendetta and exclusion. Those who differ from him are persecuted. Institutions are politicized, and governance has become a personal war.

He is so afraid of Saraki’s enduring influence that he seeks to erase his memory—from renaming projects to destroying road signs bearing his name. But erasing signs doesn’t erase legacy.

Unlike Saraki, Abdulrahman is often missing from the state. Kwara is governed through WhatsApp messages from Abuja or brief visits from Dubai. Governance by absenteeism has become the new norm.

Instead of continuing progress, he reversed it. He abandoned projects, undermined institutions, and focused on rewriting history rather than building the future.

Four years in, Kwara remains directionless. The mandate he was given has been squandered on PR campaigns and personal battles, not on meaningful development.

Workers now suffer under his leadership. Salaries are delayed, career progressions are stalled, and civil servants live in fear of arbitrary decisions.

The youth who once hoped for change are now disillusioned. Unemployment is rising. Initiatives are empty. Dreams are deferred.

Even in silence, Saraki’s presence is felt. A single word or gesture from him shifts the political atmosphere. His silence echoes louder than their noise.

He remains among the people. No tinted convoys, no armed battalions. Just a man walking among those he once led—and who still call him leader.

His philanthropy is legendary. From scholarships to health outreach, he uplifts people across communities. Not for the camera—but because it is the right thing to do.

He walked away from the ruling party when it meant surrendering the independence of the legislature. That was the mark of a man who would not trade principle for power.

Every attack they mounted against him only sharpened his resolve. Every lie they told only increased his credibility. Every step they tried to take against him only strengthened his following.

While others fight imaginary enemies, Saraki builds bridges. He connects regions, religions, and rival camps. He leads by bringing people together—not tearing them apart.

Today, the cry across Kwara grows louder. The people want a return to leadership they can respect, governance they can feel, and representation they can trust.

History will not forget those who built. And it will not forgive those who destroyed. Saraki’s legacy is etched in the consciousness of every Kwaran who lived under his administration.

The Lion of Kwara still roars. Quietly, confidently, powerfully. He remains a threat to falsehood and a hope to truth.

Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki is not just a name. He is a movement, a standard, a force of leadership. Kwara will rise again—and the people know who to call when that time comes.
