Daughters of King Sunny Ade raises alarm over isolation of father 

Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye,  iconic Nigerian juju musician King Sunny Ade, has expressed deep concern over her father’s wellbeing, alleging that he has been isolated and unreachable for several weeks. In a heartfelt public appeal, she accused his longtime manager and stepbrother, Dayo Adegeye, of controlling the 78-year-old’s movements and access to his family.

 

The issue surfaced on Monday, April 28, 2025, after popular media personality @Akanbitheduke posted a disturbing message on Instagram, highlighting failed attempts by close associates to reach the veteran singer.

Damilola alleged that her father is being moved between hotels, restricted from visiting his home or office, and being overworked despite his fragile health and the recent loss of a daughter. She also claimed that Sunny Ade is being medicated with sleeping pills and exploited for financial gain through constant performances.

 

> “The last time I spoke to my dad, he was clearly distressed. Before we could talk, someone snatched the phone from him. I’ve not heard from him since,” she wrote on social media.

In response, a close aide to King Sunny Ade dismissed the claims as unfounded, stating the music legend had recently performed in Lagos and assuring fans that “the situation is under control.” However, no concrete evidence was presented to confirm the veteran’s safety or whereabouts.

 

The matter has sparked widespread calls for transparency, with fans urging those close to the music icon to prioritize his health and well-being.
