EXCERPTS
Proceedings Recap:
Taste the Goodness: EL Blends All-Natural Cold-Pressed Juices
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), took the witness stand today as part of the ongoing trial within a trial.
Highlights from the Defense Examination:
Defense Counsel: “If someone were to send you a letter, where would it be addressed?”
MNK: “To the DSS dungeon.”
Defense: “How long have you been held by the DSS?”
MNK: “Six years.”
Defense: “You previously told the court you made your statement under duress. Can you confirm that?”
MNK: “Yes, I did.”
Narrative from MNK:
Kanu detailed his ordeal, recounting how he was blindfolded and transported from Lagos to Abuja after his arrest. He alleged that a DSS officer identified as “Mr. Brown” threatened him, stating that unless he wrote a statement in line with their demands, he would ensure Kanu was jailed.
He also recounted events from 2015, claiming he was blindfolded, chained, and forced onto a flight to Abuja. Upon arrival, he was placed in an underground cell with dim lighting, allegedly to isolate him from other detainees.
Kanu described suffering a severe nosebleed while in custody, stating that his blood left a trail as he walked. DSS operatives reportedly noticed this and brought in a doctor. The doctor, according to Kanu, advised that he should be given at least one hour of fresh air daily to avoid a medical emergency.
He further alleged that the video recordings presented in court had been heavily edited, omitting portions where DSS officers were threatening him during interrogation.
He also stated that he was consistently denied access to legal counsel, despite multiple requests. He maintained that no lawyer was allowed to see him until he was moved to Kuje Correctional Facility in 2015.
Cross-Examination by the Prosecution:
Prosecutor: “Was your detention ever authorized by a court order?”
MNK: “No court approved my detention.”
Prosecutor: “When you gave the DSS your lawyer’s contact information, did they reach out to them?”
MNK: “They never asked for the names or contacts of my lawyers.”
Adjournment:
The court has adjourned proceedings until tomorrow, Thursday May 29, 2025, at 12:00 noon.
