Constable Recruitment: Activist Sulaiman calls for independent investigation

A human rights activist, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman has called for the independent investigation into the alleged fraudulent recruitment exercise conducted by the Police Service Commission(PSC) raised by the Inspector General of Police(IGP), Dr. Kayode Egbetokun recently.

It would be recalled that there was “war of attrition” between the Police Force Headquarters (FHQ), and the Police Service Commission (PSC) as they have been on collision course over recently released names of successful candidates for the recruitment into the Constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

But Comrade Sulaiman came in defence of the current IGP Egbetokun as finest police officer who detested corruption in every form, saying that the weighty allegation raised on the subject matter by Egbetokun should not be treated with kid gloves.

Sulaiman, who is Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice(CHRSJ), urged
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the immediate stoppage of the implentation of the final list of the newly recruited Constable into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), pending the outcome of the high powered independent investigation team to be instituted by President Tinubu on the subject matter.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the CHRSJ’S Media Office, stated that the CHRSJ Chief did not allege the newly appointed Chairman of the Police Servics Commission(PSC), retired DIG Hashimu Argungu but it was alleged that some officials in the Commission were perpetrating thess evil acts of inserting unqualified names into the recruitment exercise list as being alleged by the Police boss.

He further alleged that the officers in the office of the Inspector General of Police(IGP) were not also exonorated from the fraudulent recruitment exercise in the previous years.

Sulaiman, then advised the both Dr. Egbetokun and DIG Argungu (Rtd) to fine tune a strategy by coming up with a synergy on how to have a robust, better and formidable policing system in line with constitutional provisions of the country.
