The iconic Charly Boy Bus Stop located along the busy Anthony‑Gbagada Expressway in Bariga has been officially renamed “Baddo Bus Stop”, in honour of a Yoruba rapper and Bariga native, Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Baddoo.
For decades, the bus stop carried the name of Charles Oputa (Charly Boy)—a symbol of subversive creativity and community activism in Lagos’s mainland.
Charly Boy’s influence on fans and grassroots empowerment—particularly through his CodeRed Foundation, which supported thousands of okada riders and lagosians at large—earned him this public tribute.

Though he never requested the honour, the name emerged organically from community recognition and persisted in popular usage.
On July 25, 2025, the outgoing Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Kolade David Alabi, during his final commissioning of local infrastructure projects, announced a renaming of streets and landmarks to honour prominent individuals who have brought pride to Bariga.
One of the key changes was the renaming of Charly Boy Bus Stop to “Baddo Bus Stop”.
Olamide, who rose to international fame through YBNL and pioneering Yoruba rap, was among those honoured in this move. Other honourees include King Sunny Ade, 9ice, Tony Tetuila, and football star Bukayo Saka. The aim to make sure Yorubas gain recognition in Yoruba land.

In his address, Hon. Alabi stated:
“We reflected on individuals whose talents had placed our community on the global map… Today, we formally rename streets and bus stops to honour their legacies.”
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions across social media. While some welcomed the recognition of Olamide’s cultural contributions, others lamented the erasure of Charly Boy’s longstanding legacy.
Several residents noted that despite official changes, popular usage often resists renaming. “Whether they change am to Baddo or Wizkid or Davido, for people’s head na still Charly Boy Bus Stop,” one resident commented.
Indeed, Charly Boy himself had faced similar controversy in the past when attempts were made to rename the same location “Pedro Bus Stop” by local traditional authorities—moves he described as laughable and unnecessary.
The transformation of one of Bariga’s most recognised landmarks reflects both a celebration of local cultural pride and a reshaping of communal memory. Whether the name “Baddo Bus Stop” will gain traction or remain largely symbolic will be determined by time, tradition, and the voice of the people.
Moreso, the word BADDO, Olamide aside still retains a dreadful memory on lots of lagosians.
According to the Chairman Bariga LCDA, Hon. Kolade Alabi David;
“As an administration we took our time to reflect on a number of our people who have put the name of our local council out on the Global map through their respective God given talents and craft, as well as eminent personalities in our Nation and our beloved state and Local Council who have contributed immensely to the development of our Nation and our State. Today, we will be officially renaming streets in honour of the legacies”
