A coalition of over 40 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) has called out Senator Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Anambra State, over allegations of failing to refund $1.2 million or allocate estate land to subscribers in Lugbe, Abuja, three years after receiving payment. The coalition’s press conference, held today, highlighted concerns about transparency, accountability, and the senator’s suitability to lead Anambra State.
Allegations Against Sen. Ukachukwu and Chupi Company Limited
According to the CSOs, aggrieved subscribers paid $1.2 million (equivalent to ₦1 billion) to Zoe Dew Dawn Nigeria Ltd, a real estate firm, which transferred the funds to Chupi Company Limited—chaired by Sen. Ukachukwu—in 2022 for estate land in Lugbe. Despite repeated efforts to resolve the issue, the subscribers have neither received the promised land nor been refunded, raising questions about the integrity of the APC candidate.
“This is a monumental breach of trust and an assault on transparency and good governance,” the coalition stated. “Sen. Ukachukwu’s failure to honor this agreement casts serious doubts on his fitness to lead Anambra State.”

Seven-Day Ultimatum Issued
The coalition, standing in solidarity with the subscribers, issued a seven-day ultimatum to Sen. Ukachukwu and Chupi Company Limited, demanding either a full refund of the ₦1 billion or the immediate allocation of the estate land as agreed. Failure to comply, they warned, will lead to peaceful but resolute protests across Anambra State.
“We will not stand by while public trust is betrayed and citizens are exploited,” the CSOs declared. “The time has come to hold leaders accountable for their actions.”
Call for Investigation and Petitions
The coalition urged regulatory agencies, anti-corruption bodies, and law enforcement to investigate the matter urgently. They announced plans to submit petitions to the Anambra State Chapter of APC, the National Secretariat of APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, the Inspector General of Police, and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

“We call on Sen. Ukachukwu to redeem his reputation by doing the right thing—refund the money or release the land,” the coalition emphasized. “Anything less is an insult to the people he aspires to govern.”
Implications for Anambra’s Governorship Race
The controversy comes at a critical time as Anambra prepares for its upcoming governorship election. The allegations against Sen. Ukachukwu could impact his campaign, with the CSOs questioning his commitment to transparency and accountability—core values expected of a public servant.
“This situation raises serious concerns about the kind of leadership Sen. Ukachukwu would bring to Anambra,” the coalition noted. “Nigerians will no longer tolerate leaders who promise one thing but do another.”
The coalition vowed to support the subscribers in their quest for justice, promising to escalate the matter if their demands are not met within the seven-day deadline. The public and media are urged to monitor the situation closely as it unfolds.
