Abiola Backs Obasa’s son for Agege LG Chairman in Agege council poll
In a show of unwavering party loyalty and political humility, Oluwagbenga Abiola, Vice Chairman of Agege Local Government and a former council chairmanship aspirant, has thrown his full support behind Abdulganiyu Obasa, who was recently announced as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the upcoming July 12 council elections.
Abiola, a close political ally and mentee of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, praised the APC’s decision and reiterated his loyalty to both the party and his political mentor.

“Let me make it clear — I will never go against my leader, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. This is the man who made me,” he said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Abiola credited Speaker Obasa for his political rise, from his appointment as Special Assistant on Media in 2015, to becoming the youngest council boss in Lagos in 2016, and later serving as Secretary to the Local Government in 2017 and Vice Chairman in 2021.
Though Abiola had initially aspired to become the next council chairman, he emphasized that party unity and leadership decisions must always take precedence.
“Every Vice Chairman dreams of becoming Chairman. But the party has spoken, and I fully agree,” he said, adding, “I stand with Obasa, with APC Agege, and with all decisions taken by the party and stakeholders.
A Message of Hope and Service
Abiola expressed confidence that his commitment and loyalty would open new doors in the future.
“I’m still young and full of energy. I’ll work for the party and ensure we achieve victory. I trust my leader to guide my path and recommend me for greater responsibilities when the time is right.”
He also confirmed that members of his political group, the Obasa Youth Alliance, have been instructed to support the APC’s decision and rally behind Abdulganiyu Obasa’s candidacy.
This move by Abiola reinforces the values of party loyalty, mentorship, and selfless service in Nigerian grassroots politics, setting a positive example for aspiring young politicians.
