UMUAHIA – Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has vehemently dismissed reports of his purported suspension from the Labour Party (LP) by the former National Chairman, Julius Abure, labeling it a “joke taken too far” and an “affront on democracy.”
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti stated that the pronouncement by Mr. Abure and his associates is the work of “inconsequential irritants” desperately seeking to exploit the Governor’s name for their “self-serving economic agenda.”
The statement firmly reiterated the Supreme Court’s ruling, which it claims “rightly and unambiguously stated that Julius Abure is no longer the National Chairman of Labour Party.”

According to the Governor’s office, this judgment, aligning with the Labour Party’s constitution, led to the establishment of the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee, effectively stripping Abure of any authority to act as the party’s chairman.
The Abia State Government further alleged that Mr. Abure’s purported suspension announcement came mere hours after he was summoned by a committee established by the Usman-led caretaker committee to address serious allegations of “gross misconduct bordering on financial misappropriation, impersonation, and anti-party activities.”
The statement suggests Abure’s action was a “smart by half” attempt to deflect from these accusations.
Governor Otti urged Nigerians to disregard Mr. Abure’s statement, characterizing him and his allies as “a group of clowns in desperate search of a crown they do not deserve.”
The statement concluded with a strong call to action, urging the Inspector General of Police to quickly arrest Mr. Abure for impersonation.
Additionally, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was called upon to “ensure full implementation of the Supreme Court judgement as a way of preserving the integrity of the Supreme Court and protecting our democracy.”

This development further intensifies the internal crisis within the Labour Party, following the Supreme Court’s pronouncements regarding its leadership.
The coming days are likely to see further reactions and potential legal actions as the party grapples with this leadership dispute.
