Sports Analyst Aron has offered clarification on the controversy over unpaid bonuses for the Super Falcons at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), insisting the matter stemmed from a disagreement on payment terms rather than outright neglect by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Speaking on Arise TV, Aron said the players were offered their allowances but objected to being paid in Naira.
Aron stated, “The story they will not tell you or the part of the story they are not saying is that these girls were given the money. From the grape vine, they said they were going to pay them in Naira. I remember that these are Nigerians playing for Nigeria. So they said ‘your bonuses and all the daily camp allowances, when you total them it comes to $30,000. We are going to do $30k times N1540, the exchange rate was N1,530’ but they said they’ll give room for fluctuation and they wanted to pay them in Naira and the ladies said ‘no’. ‘We don’t play in Nigeria. What do we want to do in Naira?’ This is exactly what Super Falcons said. Ajibade herself had insisted that they will not receive Naira from the NFF. And NFF said ‘No problem. If you are insistent on Dollars, we will have to take it to the CBN. We’ll pay this money to the CBN and they will do the conversion and when they get the Dollars they will pay you people.”

He added that the delay should not be blamed on the NFF since government directives had already been followed.
“So that they were not paid is not the fault of the NFF because the President had instructed the NSC to pay all these people and the NSC sent the money to the NFF. The NFF wanted to send the money to the ladies, the ladies refused and said they will not collect Naira. It is kind of emb+rrasing if you ask me,” Aron said.
